based on what. the best thing for groves is to win the commonwealth and defend it a few time while baggin some rounds. imho smigga's last 2 fights may not have been to the public taste because of his spoiler opponents and not him:good

by the way i do think groves will be worlds class and he'd wipe the floor with degale at the moment

People forget how good of an ama Paul Smith was , here i go again , twice ABA champion and a C'wealth silver medalist , thats a strong ama pedigree , he lost his C'wealth final to Jean Pascal , Smith can box , and ive jumped on his back on here because as a pro he's basically stunk the joint out , however ive seen first hand what he's capable of so when you see that talent you have to beleive in the guy , i think Smith's problems lie with dedication and conditioning , which by all accounts he's now put to bed .

Against Dodson we did see glimpses of the old ama style with Smith , fast hands and mixing up the attacks to head and body niceley , when on the outside Dodson could not live with him and imo initiated 80% of the clinches and hugging as some people call it , anyway the point im making is for those fans who are outside of Liverpool and dont know Smith think he's shite , and in fairness after watching Quigley and in parts Dodson how can you blame them but we in Liverpool know he's not , and i have an incling the fitter he gets and the better opponents he gets the more dangerous he becomes .

Do i see him as a world champion ???? amongst that lot NO !!!!!! , do i think he'd beat Groves , at this early stage im giving him the nod , its funny i done a poll about 2 months ago , Smith vs De Gale right now who wins , and some laughed it off , well id love to know what Groves has done that De Gale has'nt to get everybody excited ........:huh

Groves has dispatched better quality opposition than DeGale more impressively than DeGale has put away weaker opponents.

Nathan King wasn't bad, the others have been an assortment, ranging from indifferent to absolutely gash.

Like I said earlier, Groves has a KO win over Paul Samuels, who then won two wars against Cello Renda - who is half decent, and also beat a really rock solid journeyman in Germany.

If DeGale shows an improved attitude to go with his progressively adapting style, then he might go places. As he is right now, not a chance he goes further than Groves, who has a good head on his shoulders and is well guided by Adam Booth.

I like Groves and think he will have a better pro career then Degale but i would not put him in with Smith just yet.

The Adamu fight should show us allot about him right now,if he wins like i think he will, then give him Dilks as a defence of the Commonwealth then he would be ready to fight Anderson for the vacant British title if Smith vacates.Hopefully warren does not work his magic and get Degale in there first.

so george groves would outbox smith ay? pauls last 2 opponents knew better than to give him ANY kind of space to work in because they know how good paul really is. thats why they were messy fights, and if george groves thinks he can box smigga easily, if he gives him enough space to work, smigga will smash his big mouth right off his fat ****in head!!! NOT A GOOD IDEA GIVING SMIGGA ANY SPACE!! GEORGE GROVES WOULD GET HIT TOO EASILY!!!

Where has this sudden rash of Smith huggers popped out from? Look, he's a solid fighter but nothing more. He's a messy fighter, he lacks fundamental boxing abilities. He wades in with huge power shots that are rarely accurate and then holds. He lost to Bendall not long ago, lets get some perspective. He's beaten two guys that are not particularly great. Cleverly destroyed Quigley, Dodson lost to Quigley. I'm not saying they aren't solid wins but they weren't anything outstanding either and he didn't do it in great fashion.

We'll see how Groves does on Saturday. If he wins that impressively he's one big step towards fights like this. He looks a bigger talent than Smith, Dodson and Quigley but he needs to show he can show it at the top level, he needs to show he's tough, he needs to show stamina. They are his main concerns. On a boxing level putting him in with Smith is no problem.

I'm waiting for the ''SMW ATG list'' threads containing his name.... then a list of hypothetical matchups with the likes of Hopkins, Hagler, Monzon, Hill, Michalcszewski etc.

    :patsch

Fair point, but he beat the guy who was the british champion, and a guy who had held it before, and who a lot of people though would beat smith, so whilst i will hold back on saying put smigga in an ATG list etc, he has stepped up to championship level now, and is doing the business.
As a previous poster put it, he did what he could against guys who wanted to spoil smiths work on the inside, as they knew what he could do.
Now i know i am going to get shot down in flames by saying this, but when smith beat Jonathan reid in contender uk v usa, he fought well and beat a guy who had double the experiance than him, and his inside work was excellent, turning his man on the ropes. The difference was, reid did not hold smith on the ropes or in clinches, both fought their way out of them. It made for a decent spectacle.
At the end of the day, everything smigga is doing now is being done in steps. Clean up the domestic, great, let's go to euro level. Beat magee, and defend against a credible foreign opponent (maybe balsay, would be a good yard stick to ee how he would do against stieglitz), great, let's see if you wbo shot is still there.
All i am saying is that there are a few things coming together for him.
I think he has really re-dedicated himself to the sport, and as a result, he has been able to reign at british level.

This is the common misperception of Smith !!!!

Because he has become sloppy as a pro and has massiveley under achieved in comparison to his amateur days people think he cant box , you do not achieve what Paul achieved as an AMA if you cant box , im in the same age bracket as Paul Smith i have watched the lad in many AMA world class bouts on National level the man can box , at AMA he was world class , losing to Jean Pascal by 2 points in the C'wealth games final !!!!!!!!!!

George Groves twice ABA champion , 76 & 10 as an AMA does he have poor fundamentals , well Paul surpassed that at AMA , its not accurate to say Paul Smith has poor fundamentals !!!!!

However i agree with you as a pro he's under achieved has said himself he's lacked proffesionalism , been involved in too many poor outings , but from what ive heard in the current circle's is that he's rededicated now , and let me tell you this Paul Smith in shape and focused on boxing is not an easy task for anyone at domestic level .
