Many fighters have been KO'ed. And it is not like he was beaten up by Abraham. It was an illegal punch and Dirrell was winning the fight comprehensively. Dirrell's confidence should still be very high, how can one punch ruin an entire career.

There are many examples of one punch ruining a career.

Dirrell took a big punch, one that he did not see coming, and suffered a concussion.

How he will respond to this is completely up in the air.

This is the first i've heard of anybody saying dirrells carreers ruined. If he keeps acting like a ***** when he's got the skills to win him convincing victories he may become hard to promote though.

Shaw said Dirrell had a concussion. If you get one concussion, it becomes easier to get more after that. I don't know if his career is ruined, but the concussions won't help. He should take time off just to be on the safe side.

This is a tough time for fickle boxing fans. They are used to saying that a fighters career is over after a loss. Dirrell won, but was knocked out... very confusing for boxing fans. They don't know whether to say he is shot, glass jawed, overrated, exposed, or great.

Punch was extremely weak, no more than friendly punching in the arm between two kids.
How the unexpectedness of the incoming punch can lead to suffering a few minute concussion
while much stringer punch received when the fight is in the full swing gives usually minimal damage
    - a blink maybe?

i never heard of anybody thinking Dirrells career is over. Damn, i still feel bad thinking that Dirrell was an actor. I kept thinking to myself why would he be scared to continue when he only lost one (two max) round to Arthur Abraham. Poor Dirrell. First Robbed by that Homo Froch, then this.

Calzaghe would kick froch's ass btw

The punch will defo change Dirrell's willingness to mix it up.
IMO, The "shot" illegall or not will change AD's fighting style & confidence.

And every body knows what is needed to take him out even with pretty weak punch.

It didn't affect Marlon Starling when he was knocked out illegally.

I'd have thought Dirrell's main problem is that some people, including me, think he's a bit of a drama queen. It can affect his boxing, like against Froch, or more generally his promotability, as someone above mentioned.

It wasn't a hard shot. The only possibility is that his unpreparedness had him more buzzed than he should have been. But it wasn't career-ending or anything like that. He did so many things right against Abraham, an improvement on his performance against Froch. If he matures personality-wise he'll be tremendous.

It can happen, but Dirrell should look forward, because he just took the "0" of Abe (and this is quite an achievement regardless what some AA haters say) in a very impressive manner. He's very talented and I see a great future for him if he gains more self-confidence (he still seems to drown in self-doubts every now and then). In my opinion he's better than Ward.
