EPSN - To add insult to possible injury, Jones might not make any money from the fight. Despite the camps saying they have a 50-50 deal -- and 60-40 to the winner if it's a knockout -- do the math. Hopkins' side is supposed to get the first $3.5 million after the expenses are paid. Jones' side would get the next $3.5 million with the rest being split evenly. The problem? The fight might not generate even a first $3.5 million.
I think the fight may do better than people expect... I know several different people that are getting the fight.
I reckon it will get 50,000 / 75,000 buys and sell at least 10,000 seats come fight night. Despite all the negativity its a fight which holds a lot of interest and its a sat night in easter weekend. I can see Jones getting 2M + and dunno if heart ruling head but i see him getting the W.
i cant resist it, im going to buy it as well...there are TONS of people who will clown this fight being made but actually do want to watch it just because its so long overdue...i keep thinking roy can just pull it together and have a vintage Roy performance, and even though i know he cant, i'm still curious to see it.
People have wanted this fight forever, bare in mind Jones-Tarver 3 did 600k, and Hopkins PPVs have been around 300k, and we are somewhat intrigued. With a good promotion it should do 500k buys at least. 500k x 50 = 25million minus HBO/Golden Boys cut
I am gonna get it, I think it will be cool to see the two in the ring again, even at this stage in their respected careers. Kind of like Jones-Trinidad... I got that one, even though the fight didn't mean anything, i still found it entertaining.
My friend watched Jones train at his boxing gym in Vegas this week and said it was terribly disappointing. He is fast but all he does is clown around and potshot. He said its like Jones never learned how to fight at all, and was just bsing his way through camp. Weird, huh? Doesn't sound like a good sign, and he said he just doesn't train hard for anything, just fools around however he feels like.
