Will boxing save Calzaghe's life but take his unbeaten record, will he come back now?

Calzaghe is having serious issues ever since his career as a professional boxer ended. No matter where you rank him, what do you think of his career and his chances against other fighters of the past, for a guy who was doing regular work in some small, rusty gym with his dad, living an average life with few but valuable people around him, the kind of fame, success and money that came in a very short time is just too damn hard to handle - then all of the sudden the boxing part, what took all his time is over and he has millions and 168 hours a week to waste, the time to do stupid things - and fame suddenly feels like a burden.

The last few years and months clearly caught on Calzaghe, personal issues which not really boxing board topic, but what we know for sure that it got into his head, ****ed up his longtime relationship and family peace and got onto something which can be a ***** to put down. For those however who did the same, mentally challanging thing for over 25 years, there's another drug, a good drug to reach out for.

So will Calzaghe go back to the drawing board and look for help in his sanctuary - the boxing gym? And will boxing reach out for him to help, but ultimately will ask for his undefeated record in return, which is surely to go if he comes back given the circumstances?

    That is a good question...

I always felt like his retirement was a little premature, I felt there were some very winnable fights that could have increased his legacy more.

I would say he should have a couple more fights if that helps him drop the lifestyle he has recently been living, he is still a damn good fighter.

He wud need to cum back and save his legacy. Ward made kessler, calzaghes best victory look ordinary and won far more convincingly. Hopkins beat him. He hasnt fought great opposition and the super middleweight division and light Hw division r lookin really gud rite now. Giv hopkins that rematch.

A week ago I would have said absolutely not. Now though...

We don't know how long he has had these personal problems, or how severe they are. Keep in mind that the story came from a British newspaper with very little credibility, although he has admitted cocaine use. A return to boxing may resolve these issues temporarily, but it's just masking the problem and it will likely resurface unless he gets proper help.

In terms of his boxing career, he is definitely still good enough to win a belt from the likes of Shumenov or Braehmer, however the fights that he would return for (Froch, Hopkins II, Dawson) he would probably lose after what would be almost 2 years out by the time he would fight a comeback bout. I don't think he will make a comeback, even just because it further disproves the myth that he was happily retired. He's tried promoting and not had much success, but he might make a decent trainer. He needs to do something other than reality TV shows and snorting coke, certainly.

Returning at 38 after two years away would be a disaster. Ward or Dawson would wreck him at this point.

The fact that he has admitted it so early into his retirement might save him, coming back now without the hunger but for other reasons would see him beaten, and probably beaten by far lesser opposition.

No matter how people rate him, he has had a fantastic career!
