Please list all the ways in which Hopkins and Bute are alike. Here, I'll help you get started: Both are 6' 1"
Imo size and/or strength won't matter very much in this fight. Bute is too elusive, he can definitely hurt Pavlik and won't be in front of Kelly giving him a clear shot, like Taylor did for instance. Bute's speed and movement will be the key factors in this fight. Pavlik has shown difficulty coping with fighters that are fast, have lateral movement and good defense. Since none of the two will have a size or strength advantage, it seems to me that Bute's style is all wrong for Pavlik.
Bute comparable to Hopkins? wow that's crazy. even with a map and some blueprints drawn by hopkins.. Bute would get lost.
Pavlik had problems with one guy -- one time -- in one fight. That's a far cry from any kind of established pattern. It is well known that Pavlik was nowhere near 100% the night he fought Hopkins. Only the worst kind of biased hater tries to claim otherwise. Hopkins fought a version of Pavlik that Miranda, Taylor, and Zuniga would have knocked out. It is beyond silly to try and make that version of KP into the norm.
Not debating your logic, but your grammar makes me want to ask exactly what are those pain pills you are on? :huh
I said I was going to reserve judgement until after April 17th, but what the hell, I'll weigh in. If they fought tomorrow, we'd have a blown up middleweight, who has very limited experience against southpaws, fighting a guy I believe is the best super middleweight in the world. I'd pick Bute to win a clear UD in a competetive fight. Give KP a chance to blow Martinez out of the ring, and then put on the right kind of weight the right way, and let me see Bute deal with Miranda, and I'll make a new assessment.
Follow me for a second. Pavlik is no defensive wizard. If anything he actually likes to engage and trade punches. Bute has a very akward style, punches from many angles, can pack a punch and is faster than Kelly. So chances are Pavlik will get hit often in the fight. Having watched all of Kelly's fights after the Zertuche one, he doesn't convince me that he can be very succesful vs fast, elusive guys. His style doesn't match. Of course the Hopkins fight was one fight, but it showed some of Kelly's weaknesses. In the end, I won't favour a guy who has fought only once @ 168 over another guy who has been fighting only @ 168, has been very succesful there, and has showed he has very good skills. Plus, Bute started fighting @ 173. EDIT: But since you agree with me on the outcome, I don't see why I'm analyzing this for ya. :blood
I could become the spelling Nazis I suppose. Not gonna name them drugs huh? I suppose sharing is out.
Pavlik's record at, near, and above super middleweight is 13-1 with 11 KO's. I actually aggree with much of your post, but I'd like you to keep your facts straight. Hopkins tried to beat Taylor twice, and failed. Winky Wright tried to beat Taylor, and failed. Pavlik beat JT once by KO, and once by clear UD. In other words, an ATG failed, and a sure fire hall of fame inductee failed, but Pavlik succeeded twice. KP is a much better "boxer" than you're giving him credit for. If Pavlik and Bute fought tomorrow, I'd pick Lucian to win a clear, but hard fought decision. Give KP the Martinez fight, and time to put the right kind of weight on the right way, and I might change my mind.
Well, technically you're right, but no way Hopkins lost both of his fights with JT. No way. Even you should admit that. And of course it is the old cliche that "styles make fights". In the Winky fight, Taylor got a draw having landed 60+ punches less than Wright. Anyway, this is not the point. I actually do give credit to Kelly for his boxing skills. For the record I like both Pavlik and Taylor. As for the Martinez fight, I've already picked Pavlik by late stoppage. But if he fought Bute right now, he would lose. PS: I just checked Pavlik's professional record and I only see 3 fights he has fought above the super middleweight limit. How can his record be 13-1? :think Unless you include the fights he fought @ 163-164.
