I thought that there were many fights in history that should've never happened and were disgusting to watch. A few come to mind immediately: I think of Larry Holmes vs Muhammad Ali: Ali was a shot fighter at the time, and really didn't have anything left on account of his parkinsions disease... Holmes stops Ali in the 10th round. Rocky marciano vs Joe Louis was a mismatch too, Rocky was sharp, but Joe Louis was not in good shape or in his prime years. He was knocked down twice by the rock and was eating bombs all night. Larry Holmes vs Mike Tyson was a bit of a mismatch too, Larry wasn't in shape, didn't really have any tune up fights, and he was against the prime and on focus Mike Tyson. He got knocked out in 4 rounds. Which fights come to mind for you?
I certainly agree with all those. Holmes vs Ali was the worst of the bunch in my opinion. After round 3 Ali stopped throwing punches, had no head movement and barely had his hands up. Ali should have never been in that ring. I have not seen the whole Marciano Louis fight, but from what I hear it was just a payday for Louis and Marciano really did not want the fight. The Tyson vs Holmes fight is one I look at differently. I saw this fight live on tv when I was 17. At that time I was pulling for Holmes but I did not think he had a chance in hell. I think you are correct when you indicated that Holmes seemed out of shape and completely unprepared for the fight. This fight hurt Larry's legacy. He was already very bitter about the 2 losses to Spinks and like you said, he had not fought in a while. In my opinion, it wasn't very smart to make this his comeback fight, based on what Tyson was doing to his opponents at this time. I give Holmes credit for having the guts to fight Tyson, but based on his ring rust and clearly not being in fighting shape, it seems like he did it for the payday. It was Holmes' only loss by knockout! As far as other fights go, I would say Norris vs. Leonard, Camacho vs. Leonard and Chavez vs De La Hoya were too risky and probably should not have happened. Pac-man vs. De La Hoya and Hopkins vs. De La Hoya are questionable as well.
I wouldn't rank this one with Ali/ Holmes, but Mayweather vs Gatti was like watching a 19th century flogging.
Duran/Joppy was just...pathetic. 47-year-old man, former lightweight champion, had porked up all the way to light heavyweight, now cutting back down to middleweight for a title shot? Awful.
Gabriel Ruelas vs Jimmy Garcia Garcia was dominated in his previous fight by Chicanito in fact Garcia didnt even deserve to get that fight much less his tragic shot against Ruelas both fights contributed to his death.

In retrospect, it's tempting to say "yes" because of the freak, unexpected knockdown scored by Radamacher (surely Patterson's #1 career embarrassment), but actually Pete suffered a terrible beating and was dispatched as was expected by the heavyweight champion..the fight proved nothing and had no business being made in the first place. It did nothing to enhance respect for Floyd Patterson's reputation as champion.
Carnera-Schaaf. Ernie crawled out of a hospital bed with influenza for this one, insisting that a contract was a contract, and paid for it. Griffith-Paret III. With today's medical diagnostic technology, Benny would have been forced into retirement after Fullmer screwed him up. Following the beating Gene gave him, personality changes were reported in Paret. If Griff had not gotten up from that sixth round bomb he got flattened by, Benny would have eventually died anyway. Pryor-Bobby Joe Young. Arguello pleaded with The Hawk not to go through with this, but Aaron went out anyway and got his sparkling record blemished. Although Pryor incredibly did go out a winner in his last match, his career arguably should have concluded with the Arguello rematch. Shavers-Jimmy Young I. Tossing Jimmy in with Earnie at that early stage of his career was an abomination which could have ruined Young. Foreman-Hazleton. If this had never happened, Bob might still have possession of his legs today. Qawi-Leon Spinks. 190 was simply too low for Leon, whose combination of stature and natural bob and weave swarming style were a liability at CW. McLarnin-Villa. Pancho had an infected tooth pulled from his swollen jaw the morning of their bout. He had ten days to live. This did not take place in the Philippines of the mid 1920s, but in California. That he went the distance is incredible, but it's outrageous that it was allowed.
I agree with Ali Holmes, But Louis Marciano was a fight that had to happen imo, both were beating top contenders, and were both going to run into each other for a title shot. Louis didnt just jump into a fight with Marciano, like Ali did vs Holmes with no warm ups. Louis was beating top rank fighters and was about to charge into a title shot before Marciano put him in retirement.
