No. I've always thought Froch would beat AA and if anything the Dirrell v AA fight has confirmed that even more. I said right from the start that AA is too small for this tourny and I stand by that. There's a big difference in 160 and 168. Nigel Benn was a murderous puncher at 160, far more than AA, and yet at 168 Benn's power was nowhere near as effective on the bigger fellas
I still like AA heavily over Froch. If anything, I was quite impressed with the way Abraham was putting together quick counters and trying to start work earlier than usual vs. Dirrell. It shows you just how good that young man is that he was still able to absolutely trounce Abraham on one of his best nights. Froch will stand more or less in front of Abraham, and he will get put to sleep.
Froch will obviously watch ad vs aa tape and most probably will employ the same tactics, unfortunately, not many, from MW to LHW have the athletic ability of AD, Chad Dawson and Ward to an extent. If Froch comes out with his jab and aggressiveness, this will be pretty tactical fight, which he should probably be a bit favored in. The funny thing is, AA is basically a non entity in the Super SIx now from what I have been reading. Also the A Direll I watched last Saturday would be favored to beat ANY SMW that night. I actually was surprised AA was hitting AD as clean as he was, albeit later in the fight. As far as a prediction, I am convinced we have seen the last of AA as a slow starter, I think he will be more active in the earlier rounds and if Froch comes out aggressive trying to hurt AA, it will be a short night for the COBRA!
AA is 14-1 (15 KOs lol) above 160lbs He might be short but he is not small and his punching power is just as if not more effective at 168 due to him not having to drain himself to make weight
I have actually NEVER seen AA as bulky and stocky as I did against AD. Sorry man, he is short but not small.
Yeah, I guess David UK refers to the reach advantage all the other tournament participants have against him. AA is not "small" at all and he can deal with taller opponents pretty well. So being tall isn't enough to beat him. It has to be a combination of several attributes I've already mentioned in other AD vs. AA threads. I don't know if AA is able to be more active right from the start without loosing getting tired in the later rounds. We just have to wait what will happen in his next fight. It will be exciting for sure.
Here are a few observations I made: Against a common opponent Froch appears to have faster feet than Abraham. He certainly closed the distance better than AA did. Froch appears to be physically stronger than Arthur. Abraham wasn't really able to man handle Dirrell, but Froch did at times. Some here are saying that AA should have opened up sooner against Dirrell, but he did try to open up in the 3rd and 4th rounds, and got his ass blistered for his trouble. I think Froch may try to bring the pressure right from the opening bell, and pressure keeps AA behind his guard. Dirrell knocked Arthur around with jabs that landed on AA's gloves. Obviously Carl does not have Andre's hand speed, but he does have a stiffer jab. Abraham stopped a damaged version of Miranda, and he stopped Jermain Taylor's corpse, but when he was in with a young, healthy, legitimate super middleweight, his power did not look all that effective. He caught Dirrell with numerous flush shots, but even when he knocked Andre down, he never seriously hurt him. I think Froch has a better chin than Dirrell. I'm still picking AA to stop Froch, but that is a very tenative pick. I no longer believe the KO is a foregone conclusion. If Froch pulls a rabbit out of the hat, and beats Kessler, I'll probably change my pick.
I'd say thats a pretty accurate assessment there Boo.You've highlighted the fact that AA doesn't seem to have the strength advantage at 168 that he had at 160,you also point out how inneffective his big shots were against a strong healthy 168lb'er rather than the remains of a blown up MW.I've been mentioning these same points for several months, but unfortunately the AA clan seem to see him as some kind of invincible demi god.I think Froch will grind AA down in a war of attrition, but if he gets all macho and looks for the KO he could come unstuck.I'm still siding with Froch,i just think he's too strong physically for AA,and i don't think AA's smart enough to find a way to negate the size/strength advantage Froch has.
I did not mention stamina -- clearly an over sight on my part. Abraham appeared to be suffering from some arm weariness as early as the 4th round against Dirrell. Against JT that didn't show up until the 8th round. I think Froch has much better stamina than Abraham. If this thing gets into the late rounds, it could get quite interesting. How does a tired, desperate, and wild AA deal with a guy who can fight to the last second:think
See, i was gonna post that AA takes this rather easily based on the Froch is the easiest target ever, and his chin, imo, is over-rated. But your post makes a load of sense and makes me think otherwise. I want Froch and Dirrell to win their fights so they can rematch. The Dirrell from the AA fight would paste Froch second time around, imo!
I agree. AA despite his lack of height is the most powerful, and physically strongest fighter at 168.
I'm not sure who wins this fight but on paper I find it the most explosive fight of the tournament. I wouldn't put too much into their performances with Dirrell when they fight. Dirrell is a completely different fighter than those two. Basically, I think it depends on Froch's chin. If it holds up he probably wins a close decision. If his chin doesn't hold up he'll get knocked out.
