How the hell does Maia deserve a shot at Anderson Silva? This is ****en ridiculous. Now we're gonna have to wait another 4 or 5 months or maybe more before Silva fights again, we all know Silva is gonna destroy this piece of ****, this is a horrible match up Maia doesn't deserve this ****en title fight at all.

his second last fight he got knocked the **** out by Marquardt....in the first round.....Silva already TKO'ed Marquardt back in 07 in the first round.

This is a ****en JOKE. This fight won't last more than 2 minutes.

Maia is the replacement for Vitor Belfort.

I agree that Maia's chances are limited, but he is a high ranked fighter that is taking the fight on a 2 month notice. Sonnen defeated Marquardt, but the cut he suffered in that bout prevented him from being an option. Marquardt defeated Maia, but he iss coming off a physically grueling loss to Sonnen.

I personally would have preferred Palhares to get the shot, but he is probably lesser known than Maia. Palhares showed a good chin against Henderson, and appears to have solid take downs. Palhares is also a bull on the ground. Remember, if Palhares had gotten the shot against Silva he wouldn't have been torquing anyone's knee last week. So those of you that hate him now would not yet be doing so if your hatred is based on that performance.

    Any alternatives at the moment?

I mean guys we haven't seen in with Anderson already or who aren't injured.

Err, well Silvas TDD is not exactly legendary.

If it hits the ground maia has as good a chance to submit Anderson as almost anybody.

The fight is not a joke. Maia is a serious grappler with a impressive win over the number 1 contender. His only loss is to the previous number 1 contender. The fight ended so quick that we didn't learn much. Great win but he just got caught early when coming in with a stupid move.

The guys got 4 subs of the night awards. Silva needs to ensure he doesn't become number 5.

styles...abc etc etc. Maia, while obviously an underdog, is as live an opponent as there is.

Palhares has the chin and the takedown to be a serious opponent to Silva + his crazy leglocks.

Maia is still a better opponent than Griffin though. Griffin was the best matchup to Silva.
    Maia isnt

Peice of **** certainly not !!!!! , does he deserve his shot ??? i agree certainly not !!!!!!

At this point in his career (Maia) i think this is honestly a mismatch , the gulf in stand up class with Silva is scary , he could get seriously hurt by Silva and although Maia has a supreme ground game Silva can hang with anybody in the world on the ground :deal thats a fact , do not come back with what about Pride when he got caught in a heel hook bla bla bla , long time ago not the same fighter .

White has this non flexible opinion that Silva must defend his MW title every time he fights @205 , and its a bit silly imo , me i think Silva should of gotten another top contender @205 instead of the Maia fight , i do not wanna see this fight , im a lot more interested in watching Penn Edgar than this fight and that is the supporting bout .

Silva wants to be champ @185 & 205 together and imo Dana White is stopping this from happening , there is nobody worthy @185 to warrant a shot at the champ right now , the 2 top contenders are Wanderlei & Belfort and they should fight it out to see who is the out right #1 , then they get Silva , in the meantime Silva builds up his 205 resume from one of the many 205 top level fighters , it makes sense ..............
