The forum has spent a fair bit of the last week arguing over whether Dirrell was 'faking it' or not. Personally, I don't think he was, but that's not what I'm interested-in here. In a lot of threads discussing 'the incident', people from both viewpoints discussed why Abraham threw that punch and seemed to have a lot of different opinions about it and it'd be interesting to know what people thought or suspected. ----- PS. Before any hardcore Dirrell fans get too self-righteous about it, a little something from the end of round 4 of the fight with Anthony Hanshaw ... This content is protected This content is protected
Nice gifs. I think Abraham did it intentionally and was frustrated. I'm a fan of the Dirrell but I don't hate AA now, it happens. Just don't make it a habit though.
hard to tell but the instinctual "heat of the moment" argument seems to make the most sense as Dirrell got hit within a second of going down. Also, Dirrell hit abraham as he was going down and AA responded within half a second making the case for the instinct argument
This is why I think it was instinct. I tend to think a lot of people are judging off the replay which obviously doesn't give an accurate assessment of how quickly it happened.
Instinct. In real time the punch happens pretty quickly, so it is hard for me to believe that it was malicious. If you watch the fight he begins to raise his hands and then stops about midway, sort of like an "oh ****" moment.
Yeah. I tend to agree with the 'instinct' interpretation. Which is, I guess, what I meant by option 2 of the poll, but probably not expressed very well. I can see why other people might have different opinions, though.
I don't think there was evil intent...more like he got caught in the moment and made a mistake. The DQ was definitely justified though. However, he and his promoter, Sauerland, disgraced themselves after the fight with those ludacris comments.
I think he knew it was a foul but was just frustrated and lost his composure in the heat of the moment. Nothing unusual. I doubt he was trying to intentionally get himself DQ'd nor thought exactly about whether or not it would soften or knockout Dirrell.
And worse yet, they still let the 'acting' **** stand. Absolutely disgraceful. That is my only real beef.
Yeh, pretty disappointed in Abraham for it, even if he was just following Sauerlands lead. However, doesn't shock me regarding Sauerland.
Spur of the moment thing where he knew Dirrell was down but he also realized he was way back in the scorecards. Split second decision.
Dirrell was lucky that Hanshaw wasn't a ***** and didn't put on a performance right there. Lorenzo pulled off a bs acting job that got Soto DQed for a far less serious glancing blow. The moment Dirrell went down and AA started to swing I knew he was up **** creek if he connected because Andre would put on an act to get out of the fight. AA had a decent chance of closing out the show had he kept his cool and let his hands go for the remaining 5 minutes or so of the fight without resorting to a cheap foul.
An act of frustration and desperation in the heat of the moment. A poor choice made in a millisecond.
