I just cant understand The Ring magazine ratings at the best of times, but this is ridiculous. In their LHW ratings they have C Dawson at #1 and B Hopkins at #3 yet in their P4P ratings they have Hopkins at #4 and Dawson at #8.
Im sure some fan of Hopkins will justify this, so please explain to me.

Dawson has a belt so ranks higher in the division and p4p means that the better fighter though is hopkins.

I was thinking about that today it's very strange. Maybe part of the reason is that Hopkins fought Pavlic at a catch weight for his last fight. I don't know. You can send them an e-mail to ask them. Most of the time they will answer you

Yeah, rings P4P list never seems to match well with the regular rankings. Chad ought to be higher and Hopkins should probably be off the list.

Hopkins is an all around great fighter and Dawson is dominant at light heavyweight.

Belts dont necessarily mean you rank higher. Hopkins had The Ring belt for a while before Calzaghe beat him, and was still the next highest rated fighter after him.
I admit Hopkins hasnt been fighting any LHWs since Tarver and should drop down the LHW rankings, but that should also include the P4P rankings as hes fighting at LHW, and has only fought 1 genuine LHW in Tarver. Thats soon to change tonight against Jones but still, how can he hold such a high ranking, and how can The Ring rate him higher in one poll and lower in the other?

But they are in the same division, so how can the same magazine rate one higher than the other in one poll and lower in the other?

I'm not sure other belts (besides the ring's) matter in the rankings of ring.
e.g. Jan Zaveck has IBF belt and is ranked 10th welterweight by ring (which I find ok)

Pretty boy is right, you may be the best p4p but you still have to work your way up the rankings of the weight classes. If you are the best p4p and move up to a new weight, then you wouldn't bump the current #1 contender at that weight even if you are better then him, not usually anyway.

Which is complete bull****, Hopkins at this stage of his carrier is not the better fighter.

Probably because Bernard Hopkins hasn't fought a light heavyweight in four years.

FWIW, I also have Hopkins rated higher P4P, on the basis of his resume, but have Dawson rated higher at LHW, and if the two fought, I think Dawson would dominate.

because hopkins has been in the top half of the p4p rankings for 9 years dawson has just recently enter the list ,i'm sure dawson would beat hopkins at this stage by close decision based on his workrate by the way but longevity counts
