Terrible idea. There's nothing left to prove, nobody out there to beat and at 45, it's really time to focus on promoting cards instead of taking insane risks. The HW title is WAY out of reach.

Roy Jones Jr., an athletically insanely talented guy handpicked a slow and one-dimensional John Ruiz at Roy's absolute best when the limit was 190lbs. Ruiz is a good solid HW but can't handle speed and movement, I mean did you see him last night in Manchester? Today the HW limit is 200lbs and unlike Ruiz, David Haye has solid speed and outstanding punching power that can hurt an old small fighter even through the gloves.

Haye has balance issues, low workrate, offers a lot of openings, and I would've given Bernard a good chance some 4 years ago at cruiserweight. But not at heavy. The veteran body is not ready to put on serious muscle, not ready to get hit by someone 30 pounds heavier, too old for such an insane risk.

Can you imagine the prime Roy fighting David Haye instead? I can't. There's not enough left in Bernard Hopkins' tank and there's no John Ruiz or Chris Byrd to pick on. Let it go Bernard. It's a war you can't win but one you can get hurt seriously.

Considering Bernard now has an eggshell for the back of his head, he better forget fighting again.

I cant see why he's doing this, BHop is not an idiot like. And he's clearly too old for young guys in his own division. So whats his angle in looking for this, or is he just delusional?

Doubt this fight happens, and i must say i ponder Hopkins motives for wanting to fight Haye.... unless of course its because he wants one last big payday and Haye is that. But hell, why not fight Toney at heavyweight at least? That would be an ok payday (he would still get the hardcore base to tune in on it, i know i would watch) without the huge risk.

IF Hopkins had a chance of winning, i would say go for it, because the reward is HUGE.... but i give Hopkins almost NO chance in this fight, so when the reward is so far out of reach it pretty much becomes obsolete.

Hopkins is smart and im not quite sure why hes targeting Haye.

Another way to look at this.

Perhaps Hopkins keeps mentioning Haye's name to raise Haye's stock in the USA. Remember that Hopkins earns from Haye as he is a co promoter. The more people hear about Haye, the more PPV buys Golden Boy will get when Haye finally meets Wladimir.

The more likely idea though is that Bhop is a grade A virginaboob and has reached a point in his life where suicide is appealing to him.

I agree BigBone, I just can't picture this fight under any circumstances. I haven't seen the fight from last night yet but I've read that he was poor.

This fight would be a massive mistake for Hopkins.

That would make more sense, but do GBP have a stake in Haye?
