Having not long got back from Manchester, I thought now would be as good a time as any to share some brief thoughts about the fight. I think David Haye put on his best performance as a Heavyweight, and John Ruiz deserves credit for standing up to some heavy shots, but at the same time, loses credit for trying to get a DQ victory. Really not needed, John. Haye has proved he has the power to hang with the big boys, and I still think he looked really mobile on his feet despite some whispers about him being "defensively awful". Regarding the no sparring because of the cut, I was actually made aware of this by an insider a day before the event took place. I think he should keep his left hand a bit higher, and at times he is guilty of telegraphing wide, looping hooks. Straight shots down the pipe will hurt him at such times, but luckily for him, John Ruiz is devoid of any straight shots and has been arguably his whole career. Wladimir would be another story, goes without saying. Boxed Ears made a point earlier about preferring to watch fights at home then go to the Arena because of all the drunkenness and whatnot. I concur.
How was the atmosphere Addie? It looked pretty good on TV, shame I couldn't make it as it's just down the road for me. I enjoyed the fight though, Groves looked decent on the undercard too. I see you've eventually swapped Winona for Helios aswell
Haye and Booth wern't happy about their performance, both said they got hit way more than they should have.
Haye is good for the division. He puts on a good show prefight and his fighting style is pretty exciting.Unlike the Klits fights, there is some drama when Haye fights. Haye is certainly not unbeatable, his defense and chin are questinable but his offense is very impressive. I really disagree with you that Ruiz tried to win on a DQ. That referee, was just awful, Haye hit Ruiz with about 6 intentional rabbit punches. Those punches can cause brain damage and no it was not due to Ruiz turning his head.
bull**** Haye landed 3 rabbit punches ruiz also hit haye behind the head plenty of time, plus he used his elbow to rough him up PLUS he threw 3 punches after the bell Haye just didn't complain. and yes it was because of ruiz turning his head, im working on a highlight video for everytime ruiz turned his head as we speak.
I had Winona for so long because in my own words, "She's so fine it hurts". Well so is Helios - Eingya. ...She'll be back. :good The atmosphere was lively, what you'd to expect from the Brits who are all pissed up. There was a Mexican Wave that went on for a good 2-3 minutes. Groves wasn't fighting a live opponent at all, he'd have had that over and done with in the opening round if he applied himself a little bit more. I think I might stay at home for fights in future though. I just hate having to listen to some of the rubbish people spit out behind and next to me.
I really have no intention on entertaining the idea that Haye won as a result of illegal blows. John Ruiz was play acting and I think any other opinion on that matter would be reaching.
I have to disagree. Those were intentional rabbit punches. A fighter can't defend against rabbit punches and they can cause brain damage, very dangerous.Even if a figher turns slightly away (à la James toney), you can't him on the top of the head, the rules are clear. Anyway, it was just an awful referee but that shoould not take away from the Haye win. Haye put on a good fight yesterday
well first of all i have no sympathy for ruiz what so ever he is the king of dirty fighting, he headbutts, low blows, elbows, hugs, he has broken every rule in the book, he faked low blows to get wins in the past, haye has no history of this. second haye only hit him with about 3 rabbit punches, because each time ruiz got hit there he went down, the 3rd time he went down the punch was just above the ear. and no it is illegal to turn your head like ruiz was doing, let me finish the video and i'll show you in slow motion everything im talking about.
Well, I agree Ruiz has certainly always been a dirty fighter. Haye certainly has no history of dirty fighting. I think that Haye was little overanxious to get the fight over with, the ref should have stepped in and penalize him IMO. I will check the video for confirmation.
I think it was a good performance from Haye, especially as he couldn't spar for a month leading up to the fight.
Booth got hit? What with, an ugly stick? If you think Ruiz was play acting then you should definately watch Hopkins acting like the sky fell in on his dome everytime Jones Jr pawed him. For the record one of those rabbit shots he complained about and went down from was a legitimate punch and he should have been counted on it. Jones literally could have won that fight on one of the five punches he actually threw! Anyway enough of the not so golden oldies - Haye looked good but a fair few of his punches lacked accuracy and he seemed to take three rounds off over the course of the fight (the first being Round 4) possibly due to stamina issues? He did seem heavy and listless at times but he got the job done and has some real power at his disposal.
They showed punch stats during the fight (maybe 6th or 7th round) and his success rate was 40%....... how many other fighters do you see with a % success rate as high as that? Haye's the best thing to happen to the Snoozeweight division in years, he's brought back the excitement thats been missing for so long. He punches hard and he punches accurately
