I mean are we using portions of their careers or the whole careers?

Jones was doing what Hopkins just started doing long before he became a marquee name ..

Roy Jones beat Ruiz easily when Ruiz was in his prime! Hopkins just beat Jones! Green knocked Jones out in the first round! Ruiz could not hurt Jones! LOL!Jones a former middleweight and Hopkins a former middleweight. Haye fans are now claiming that Ruiz was the greatest heavyweight of all time! LOL! Vitali and Vlad, which one will get Haye into a ring? I doubt if Haye will ever fight them, but if he does he will have his referee to protect him with his illegal blows. Ruiz has a right to file a legit protest for Haye's illegal blows. Remember, Golota was disqulifield for low blows. Abraham was disqualified for an illegal blow, but only one blow. Haye landed several illegal blows. Terry Norris lost his title because of an illegal blow behind the head just like Haye's illegal blows, but there was only one, Haye landed several.

I don't know, kinda hard to measure. In my opinion a 40ish BHop beating a prime Pavlik is just as impressive as RJJ beating a slow HW in John Ruiz. I don't see anything super special about beating a flat footed, mediocre fighter like Ruiz, even if you are the smaller man. Many people are downplaying Bhop's latest win over Roy but even if Roy is 41 yrs old he still had a 4 yr age advantage going into the fight. Hopkins appears to age better than Roy does. And that has to count for something. Prime for prime Roy is clearly the better fighter than Hop. But credit should also be awarded to Hop for his latest win because he is probably the only 40+ yr old man (P4P) in the entire world who can beat RJJ.

Ruiz was never really a dangerous opponent because of his lack of punching power. He fights like a robot. Granted he had a size advantage over Roy but that's not going to level the playing field when you are fighting a highly skilled fighter like Roy.

Valuev is a top 10 HW. Let's say Lucian Bute beefs up to HW and beats him by UD with slick boxing....does that mean we should throw Bute a parade? Call me crazy but I'm not overly impressed by Roy's win over Ruiz. It's a case of cherry-picking. If Roy had fought and beaten 2 or 3 other HWs then sure, I would definitely give him a nod for doing something spectacular.

Hopkins taking on Pavlik was a riskier fight because of Pavlik's punching power. I realize Hop had a size advantage but Pavlik was the far younger man. And at the time Pavlik was an unbeaten top 10 P4P fighter.

Hmmm you make a good point. THE MAN at hvy in '03 really was Lennox and I don't see RJJ beating him even in his prime.

You should have read the Murad Muhammed interview a couple of days ago on that one "Hype" boxing site. Murad was talking about the matches Jones could have had at heavyweight but the all fell out so Jones decided to go back down to Light Heavy.

I would post the link since you probably wouldn't be able to find it now, but since ESB has strict policies i can't, it's really stupid.

Roy was better in his prime but B-Hop had the more consistent carrer. If I had to chose which carrer I wanted I would pick B-Hops. I wouldn't wanted to get KO'd as many times as Roy has.

BTW their first fight was closer than people think. I scored it 7-4-1.

Roy is something like 5-7 in his last 12 fights. He has not destroyed his legacy but he is certainly hurting it.

Jones' best wins: Bernard Hopkins (green), James Toney, Montell Griffin, Virgil Hill, Clinton Woods, John Ruiz, Antonio Tarver.

Hopkins' best wins: Roy Jones (shot), Glen Johnson, Felix Trinidad, Oscar de la Hoya, Winky Wright, Kelly Pavlik.

It's close. I think Hopkins can win this if he adds another notable win to his resume.

Hopkins was not in his prime in 1993. He didn't have much amateur background and his pro experience was not that great.

Man listen, im so tired of a bunch of bias idiots give their opinions when it comes to these "Who has the better legacy polls"! You guys do the same thing to Floyd! You can put Floyd on a poll against Hitler and I bet my bank account Hitler would win!

Fans are just bias nowadays and vote for whoever they like the most and Jones style was more appealing and he was the golden boy of the 90's so quite naturally you morons would say Jones has the better legacy and to me that's non sense

Hopkins has way better names on his resume!

    Hopkins big wins

    Jones Jr
    Trinidad
    De La Hoya
    Pavlik
    Tarver
    Wright

All Jones done was beat Hill, Toney, Trinidad and a pre prime Hopkins and won the MW and HW title

Clearly Hopkins has the better ;egacy although Roy had the more entertaining style

Yeah, he does. And judging from last night, it will stay that way. Hopkins isn't beating any Hayes or Adameks or Dawsons or Wards.
