When Jones said "60-40 and I'll kick yo ass" Hopkins steadily insisted on 50/50 despite these facts: 1. Jones was gonna defend HIS titles at a catchweight. 2. Jones was a bigger name AND draw. 3. Jones had already beat him. 4. 60-40 was very generous. 5. Hopkins has taken less than 40% to fight lesser fighters. Is there still anyone here who honestly still believes Hopkins didn't price himself out because he knew Jones would kick his ass?
What a silly comment to make. If Jones couldn't stop a green Hopkins, how on earth was he going to stop a prime Hopkins? People are forgetting that last night was an event which pitted two fighters that were BOTH faded (all be it Hopkins was to a lesser extent). Too many of you are treating Jones to be the only one past his best. Come on guys, Hopkins is too! Dude is like 45 years old. Yes he's kept himself in brilliant shape, but last night wasn't the Hopkins we saw destroy Trinidad. Ideally this fight should have taken place 10 years ago when both guys were at their peak.
Hopkins was past it last night too. But yeah, folks like Roy better. He'll get excuses made for him till the day he hangs em up and beyond.
Hopkins bitched out in 02, and he bitched out last night, with out the incompetent ref and the numerous breathers he took last night, I'm not sure if would've won even against version of Roy.
I admit, prior to last night I was a proponent of this fight taking place, argueing that it still had a lot of historical significance to it. But unfortunately Hopkins dissappointed me a little bit, making me wish this took place 10 years ago, a time which would have made this matchup something really special. As to who would have won, I'd probably go with Roy. Hopkins would have brought out the best in him
