have to agree. despite how much hopkins brings up his own race and jail time, every race and ethnicity has boxers who cheat

ps its easy to see when hopkins is cheating

Yeah Cortez was all over Hatton like a rash for holding against Mayweather and then shortly afterwards while officiating in Hopkins-Calzaghe allowed Hopkins to hold continually without a word. :huh

I agree wholely with this.... and Hops isn't the only respected fighter out there who gets away with holding murder. I mean, sure, some hypocritical boxing fans will **** all over Ruiz or Berto for excessive holding, and yet when Hops or Mosley do it they say it's not illegal, it's being 'crafty.'

What kind of of a ridculous double standard is that?!

Absolutely. What Hopkins did masterfully was create an image of himself that got people to believe that he was the grittiest mother****er that laced 'em up. I don't think it worked because he was black (although he did try to use that to get under Calzaghe's skin), but because he did a great job creating that persona. Those fighters that got caught up in it usually got dismantled. Those that didn't let Hopkins bully them mentally (or physically), Hops typically looked terrible against.

damn straight. and the thing is mosley and hopkins have the skills to box without these tricks, without this negative bull****. mosley boxed better when he was using power boxing than this modified hold and hit ****. hopkins has always been crafty (legitimate crafty, not headbutt crafty) but when his physical gifts left he started this ****. if you can't physically box, then don't. but you can't bring a ****ing bat to the ring and call it experience

Floyd completely manipulated Cortez. He kept saying that Hatton was dirty before the fight so that it would be in Cortez's mind before the fight. Cortez was played like a fiddle. Once you draw attenton to something like that you put it in the mind of the referee and you make him look for it, that's what happened with the Hatton fight.

It is what it is, and you nailed it in saying that it's a double standard. Really no other way to paint it as to why it's cool for one guy to foul/fight ugly and not another, and there's really no rhyme nor reason as to who'll have their reputation suffer and who won't. Depends purely on the personal opinion of the fan/writer doing to judging, really, and we all know how consistent that is.

very good point. i still say taylor beat him twice. and part of that may have been that he refused to let hopkins drag him into his kind of fight until the end and refused to buy into the hopkins myth. he just went about his business. even oscar had good success until the size and his own doubts got to him.

Totally correct. A man of Cortez experience should have been aware of what Mayweather was up to and not fallen for it.

I think it's time they started enforcing hit and hold point deductions.
Nobody likes watching huggers and it spoils the other boxers work or punches completely.

i agree. holding is part of the game but like anything, there are reasonable degrees of it. there is however, NO reasonable amount holding and hitting. nor is there an acceptable level of headbutting or diving. this **** has seen it's day. ****ing, i'd love to see hopkins in there with fritzie zivic so he could see how REAL old school fighters do it. b-hop would leave with one eye, one nut and a DQ loss
