I wasn't impressed with Haye at all...

Well I was pretty impressed. I think many people will try to discredit Haye by saying that Ruiz is 38 but...

 

That you parade that list as some sort of mark of quality. Johnson, Arreola and Johnson...

i think last night really showed that haye has absolutely no chance against either wlad or vitali, even though vitali's chin is far more solid than his brothers i think haye has a better chance against vitali by using his boxing skill and outboxing him, vitali has looked so stiff lately im surprised he doesnt get arrested for indecent exposure

 

Hmmm cant think of too many unified champs and 2 weight world champs to have defended his title on his 25TH FIGHT! This guy has gone from a quick fisted banger who gassed out and got sparked by a blown up super middle to a genuinely hard punching, exciting heavyweight who with Adam Booth shows he can stick to a gameplan nicely.

As for last night, Haye admitted himself he got caught up with the adrenaline of the occasion and therefore it didnt go perfectly. He did get caught with a couple of shots but he rode the punches and was never hit flush. For me his footwork was exemplary, he showed good tactical nouse in not getting cornered and fired his jab so accurately it set up some beautiful hard shots. Guys his accuracy was around 40%, im aware Ruiz is no defensive genius but nevertheless in a heavyweight title fight thats incredible.

Like him or hate him hes great for british boxing and the heavyweight division as we have someone who'l be at the very least active against the Klitschkos

 

His stamina is of some concern to me too, perhaps its down to his training.
Most heavyweights, like Ruiz are 12 rounds ready but not physically cut at all. I think Haye may well be doing too much muscle training to the detriment of stamina.

He just jus really throw more then ones twos and threes. At one point he had Ruiz in the corner after unleashing a combo. Then he just poppoed a low jab out then eventually let him get out without throwing anything else.

If he faces Vitlala he may well have to decision him, and if he is to do that he will have to be a whole lot more busy.

 

I think though, Strike, it's the fact you say you weren't impressed with Haye AT ALL that's rubbed some the wrong way. I see where you're coming from, but there were some things to be commended in that performance. He did more right than wrong.

 

Cant we just give this guy a pat on the back for a great win over a good opponent?

Im so fed up of seeing Haye get a shellacking on the general forum only to come to the British forum (who you'd think might be a bit more sympathetic) and hear people nit-picking what was an excellent performance.

Give the bloke a ****ing break!

If you have your worries, then fine, but at least finish on a positive which is what this fight was for Haye.

 

Haye seems to have very surprisingly grown on the Americans, but surprisingly lost a bit of credence with the British: most odd.

well done to haye last night. i reckon he beats most at heavyweight but im still struggling to see him beat either klitshko, unless vitali grows old overnight or haye is able to land on vlad i cant see him beating either, not when your getting wobbled by a ruiz jab in the 1st round?

I was thinking the same thing when I watched it live, but I just watched it again and it looked like Haye was just caught square on in my opinion.

 

Is that the punch he bounced off the ropes with? If it is i thought it was more to do with being square on as well didn't looked shaken at all to me afterwards anyway

I thought haye looked good. His defence will need a lot of tightening up that round where Ruiz landed 6 or 7 jabs in a row was especially bad. His stamina as already pointed out is the most worrying for me at the minute.
