Funny that you say Choc wasn't big enough to fight at SM against world class fighters - might be true but it's a fact that his best performances have been at that weight. He looks weak at MW and his efforts there have been mediocre with the exception of the Geale fight. You say he is settling in at MW and should start to excel??? His weight is all over the place Jeff.
Ash the only thing I can reply to all the knockers is the proof is in the pudding. I thought he boxed well against Rob Medley and I am confident the improvement will continue. People are going to put him down whether he fights well or not. His skill is the best in our country right now. His speed and power is good although I would like him to sit down on his punches a bit more. His health hopefully will be right when he gets back from America.
How would you compare his Soliman 2 performance to the ones we've been seeing recently though mate? I'm not sticking it to him just for the sake of it, I just honestly think that his purple patch is over.
Jet yes his weight has been all over the place which has made it difficult. He knows super middle is just to big so thats the reason he has come down. The Medley fight was good because he brought his weight down properly and is now comfortable at the lighter weight. Making 154lb which is also an option wont be a problem because he is now doing it right. Against Rob he held back a bit worrying about his strength in the later rounds. Now he knows he can be more aggressive for the whole 12 rounds he should be better next time around.
The second fight with Sam I was very proud of him. We spoke about the way he should be fighting Sam and I told him in the first fight he let Sam push him around to much. He got backed up all night and I thought thats what made it so close. The second fight he never took a backward step and took the fight to Sam. Boxing is all about throwing punches. That was what won him the second fight with Sam.
That and Timo Masua; Timo still had something then and was a massively dangerous banger. The nature of the KO was awesome and finished what Timo had left
it will never be on Danny's terms.he unretired and challenged him to a fight at Subiaco hes aready relented and says if it happens it will be in Sydney.the purse split, the weight will all be at what Mundine wants.sad but true.their double header in Perth Mundine fought last because thats what he wanted, purse Mundine got the larger share.he just wont fight him otherwise.
I know you said he wasn't knocking guys out in sparring prior to the medley fight, but in his next camp will you be looking for him to hurt and knockout guys as opposed to the work rate focus? No, the magnitude and the way in which he dominated Danny Green is clearly his best work, it was a clinic. I would argue the sullivan rematch as he beat him down badly or the way in which he negated echols punching power and boxed smart to become "Mr 1 time."
I dont believe in belting people in the gym. You dont win world titles in gyms but if a guy starts to go hard it doesnt hurt to remind him you can fight a bit yourself.
My problem with the Echols fight is that had the fight been fought overseas, choc probably wouldn't have got away with all the excess holding, etc. Teh Green fight would probably be his best. The Soliman 2 one was impressive, though the only downside to it was that he had Soliman on ***** street in the 2nd and it took him till the 9th to actually finish him off even though he never really recovered from it. Still a good impressive win though.
I really respect this post :good I remember my first mauy thai lesson, some ****head gave me a blood nose and a decent beating to the head. 6 months later i was better than him, and from then on i always gave him a really hard time when we sparred.
