I'd bet on Pong. Sasakul got pretty careless in their fight and started coasting a few rounds too early. He was really giving Pac a boxing lesson, and with seeming ease. I for one think Sasakul was an even better technician than Pong, but I'd wager that Pong wouldn't make the same lackadaisical mistakes as Sasakul did that allowed Pacquiao into that fight.

you'd have to rewatch that fight. At no point was Sasakul coasting. Pacquiao was chasing him down and landing sporadic big shots throughout the fight although he was losing the rounds. Sasakul was outboxing Pacquiao but eventually overwhelmed and ktfo. No doubt about it.

And it was only the 8th round which suggests the KO was inevitable.

Coasting may've been the wrong word. He just seemed lackadaisical in his approach, particularly in comparison to the Sasakul that fought Arbachakov for example. Pacquiao wasn't up to much at Flyweight, just a pure physical specimen with hardly any real skills. Had Sasakul kept his head I think he'd have cruised to an easy decision win. One of those fights where I'd have no qualms betting on the loser had a rematch taken place.

Sasakul was trying to change gears and totally misjudged the time to do so. He knew the movement he was using was unsustainable and I think wanted to adopt a more economic counter-punching approach. He probably felt comfortable to do this because he had been hitting Manny so easily but Pac hadnt been slowed down sufficiently yet.

In a way yes Manny did wear him down..he was a hungry young fighter who displayed very good power and a will to win.

But I consider Pong a much better overall fighter then this version of Pac. I find him more durable and better suited to taking on Pac then Sasakul was, who whilst better technically then Pong wasnt as versatile in my eye. I think he gives him a pretty lopsided schooling but is pushed hard to the end..he might drop Manny with a good counter in the last 1/3 as Manny gets more desperate and wild.

Cant understand why people think otherwise...this aint a hard one to pick.

pac was on steroids during that fight. Look at the first video Pac got a bigger head. And no way he could KO a lineal champion with a single punch in his home country Thailand.
Sasakul is a special fighter. He whooped arbachov to capture the ring.
No way pac could KO sasakul without PED :yep

BTW.. I think Flhomos will show video of floyd knocking out his opponent with a single punch LOL. can't wait for their youtube LOL

i agree with this. i also don't think that sasakul was coasting. pac was taking four to five shots just to get in with one big shot.

i think a prime pong would beat any version of pac at 112. even the one that fought sasakul. pac wasn't that good at flyweight. he was basically a fast guy with a dynamite left. prime pong would have been better overall.

but if you match pong of 1998 with pac of 1998, i think pac would have won by ko.

Those who voted for Pac: have you really ever seen Pacquiao back at flyweight? What crazy **** is this, he was nowhere near, absolutely nowhere near the elite or even A level, and Pongsaklek was a superb fighter in his finest days.

Pongsaklek schools Pacquiao and there's no shame in that, Pac lost to lot worse fighters and still became the fighter of the (next) decade. The flyweight Pacquiao does not beat the flyweight Wonjongkam, period.

Those who voted based on today's Pac and lack of klowledge for Pongsaklek: well, you are an idiot!

You ever heard how Pac's punches looked weak because he looked like he threw it without dedication? Those were the punches that KO'd or set up the KO of his opponents. Back in the days, if you cant crack Pac's chin, you're getting KO'd not because of Pac's skills, but because of his relentless attacks to the body and his ability to take headshots. Pong is a good technical fighter, he may outbox Pac in the first to middle rounds, but he still gets Ko'd in the latter round. Work rate doesnt even compare.

it' easy to say that a prime pong would beat pac at 112. but i really think 1998 pac would beat 1998 pong clearly. 2002 pong would been another matter.
