that would be a very good card especially with the cubans and gevor would be a top notch opponent for lee

 

To be honest i was hoping for Proska for the EU title to act as an elimintor for the winner to fight the Barker/Belecham winner for the Euro crown proper but Gevor would be great aswell.

 

The cubans are always good to watch but Power versus Waldron and Timms versus Sweeny should be two cracking domestic big hitting scraps.

 

Ya both would be a very good fight for him but gevor is ranked in all top 10s except wbc so it would really catapult andy into the world rankings better that a win over Proska.

A bit about Andy Lee in last Thursdays Mirror.... Not much info on May 15 but it seems an undercard is ready to go.. im dying for sweeney timms...

Andy Lee has labelled the decision to allow Darren Barker and Affif Belghecham contest for the middleweight European title vacated by Matthew Macklin as a ‘joke’.

Lee, who confirmed he is in talks about appearing on a Brian Peters promoted show in Limerick in May, defeated Belghecham in his last outing and is understandably confused as to how the Frenchman earned a title shot ahead of him.

The stylish pugilist is now hoping to the fight the winner of the April 9 clash later in the year.

Former Olympian, Lee also stressed he is hoping to sign with big time American promoters Top Rank Promotions and believes such a move could pave the way to a World title challenge.

Top Rank boss, Bob Arum expressed an interest in the Limerick man last week and Lee (20,1) told the Irish Mirror he would welcome any Arum advances.

“I'm currently in talks with Brian Peters about the possibility of me fighting in May. Nothing has been signed, and no opponent named but we are working on it and hopefully I'll be out again in Limerick in May,” the likeable American based puncher explained.

“I heard Darren Barker is fighting Belghecham for the European title, I think it's a bit of a joke, the guy that I just beat gets to fight for a vacant title. I think Barker will win by an easy points decision. Hopefully I can fight the winner but I'm not sure if Barker would fight me,” he added before speaking on Arum’s comments.

“I heard Bob Abrums comments recently, and I'm encouraged by them. Top Rank are the leading promoters in the world right now and I would love to sign with them. We've had talks with Top Rank in the past but a deal never materialized. Hopefully in the future we can work something out. Plus signing with them would give me a direct route to the middleweight title. I would like the chance to fight Pavilk, he is a tough fighter, a big, strong guy for middleweight but I believe he would suit my style. It will be interesting to see how his fight with Sergio Martinez goes, Martinez is a tricky southpaw not unlike myself but he may lack the size to beat Pavilk.”

 

I think there's a little harshness in the assessment of Haye's performance against Ruiz. I was impressed. Okay so Ruiz is not a great fighter but he was tough and Haye showed a mature performance and good temperament to take his time and dispatch a guy who's been around the top level for a long time (with a god-awful style I'll admit).

The fact that Haye's power and speed have travelled up to heavyweight surely is cause for excitement given the poor state of the division over recent years. His stamina also held up and I was proved wrong when I thought he was blowing a bit early on. I thought the fight opened up questions as to how he would fare with the likes of the Klitschko's and I would give him a decent chance of upsetting Wlad - although Vitali is a different animal.

Either way, four knockdowns and a reasonable level of excitement. It was certainly a marked improvement on watching Wlad and Chambers the other week!

I don't think it was a bad performance. It was as good as anything else knocking around to challenge the Klitschkos but that doesn't mean it was good by default.

Also, I just can't help feeling Haye is waiting around for the Klitschkos to get old enough that they are totally ripe for the plucking. I think he's waiting to see someting in one of their fights that suggests they really are to be taken out and then he'll go all out to fight one of them

At the minute he likes talking about fighting either of them without actually pushing hard to make the fights.

 

good man im still not 100% sure that this fight is set in stone for the 7th because mccloskey didnt have a clue about it when eamonn okane asked him and barry mcguigan reckons it must be a mistake aswell. but whenever its set for i should be on it

 

Good stuff. Looking forward to seeing that. A win for him will be another good step towards a world title. Have you any idea if it will be shown live on the box? Hopefully you'll get a bit of tv exposure. I've yet to see a live performance of the Jackal.

 

Yea mcclokeys bill will defo be on Friday fight night as it will be promoted by match room so I'm just praying that I get some tv exposure aswell!
