Yes i know this but your example of people talking more about Mayweather-Mosley than Pac-Clottey is not a good one to show how big Mayweather is. Switch the opposition, do you think May-Clottey would be talked about more than Pac-Mosley.Its just a much bigger fight between two huge names, the Pac-Clottey only had one. And you cannot deny that Mayweathers recent opponents in Oscar, Hatton and Marquez have not added significant numbers to the PPV as well as Floyd.

The saying holds true: ANY publicity is good publicity.

If it was because of Oscar, why did Oscar vs. Pacquiao do about half? Try again... and I'll give you a big hint: it starts and ends with the fact that Floyd Mayweather is a massive draw.

Technically, wouldn't it be Tyson, unless you were talking in terms of single events? Either way, it goes back to the saying about publicity. Of course, Tyson, the most publicized fighter of the last 25 years, would end up appearing in like 6 or so of the top 10 largest boxing PPV events in history in terms of buys, or in terms of revenue.

De La Hoya was the primary seller with Floyd, but Hatton and Marquez were not big names in America. They brought very little to the table as far as American PPV sales are concerned.

They did not as flagrantly go on and on about how they're in the sport for money, view it purely as a business, and will cash out on their own terms. Floyd's even changed his nickname to "Money". There's a difference.

All fighters are in the sport for money, and many go undefeated for a period, but not in the way Floyd has. Very different.

Floyd is the biggest draw in the sport of boxing. Floyd vs. Pacquiao will likely outsell Oscar vs. Pacquiao, even. There's no way to justify downplaying how large a draw Floyd is.

I was talking about a single event, I should have made that clear. My apologies.

He's the best at it. Ali was the best at it.

That is not true at all, especially with Hatton, sure he wasn't a big name at the time but it was all over the American news about all the British fans that have travelled to Las Vegas, which on its own would have craeted enough hype for Americans who may never have heard of him to take an interest.

How much did Oscar do with Tito, Mosley, Vargas and Hopkins?

    There's your answer.

He is a draw certainly, any fighter with his abitlity is a draw, but he has very few fans that arent internet based or a famous/celebrity arse licker type.

Ill never forget the story of the Hatton fight when a floyd fan was spotted in Vegas (his home town) and was follwed around by a bunch of Hatton fans with drums singing "he's only got one fan".

As floyd himself said - he would give anything to have his (Hattons) type of following. Mind you he was probably humouring Hatton after he had just handed him his ass on a plate.

Floyd is not "Mr Boxing" like he claims to be, nothing like it.:good

I'm not trying to, i believe he is the biggest draw in boxing currently but i also feel that it should not be overlooked that his recent opponents also had a big following themselves, do you think Mayweather would do a million buys with Clottey, i think he would do more than Pac did as he is great at promoting his own fights but i don't think he would reach a million with someone like Clottey.
