    Yes, it does, if a major boxing event like a Floyd-DLH fight for example can have enough captive audience or an audience rating like what you'd get in a Superbowl. The opposite of this is exactly the reason then why these major boxing matches in the US are not on free TV.

    His fights arnt that exciting, since thats what most casual fans want he has to talk his way into selling tickets.

    Promoters and all now are looking for the best potential money makers rather than the best talent which is a real shame.

    Marnoff I think you are missing the dual goals in cultivating any sport. Long term cultivation of the sport versus short term cash outs. When in balance, it spreads the money around.

    Showing boxing on "free" channels is the long term investment in boxing. Kids watch and are interested. Fighters gain fans and following. PPV money is a short term cash out of all of the long term work you put in promoting.

    PPV has essentially cannibalized American boxing by moving it out of sight. Only devotes to the sport even know what is going on with it.

    Yes, I was spot on. I said that floydettes should not be surprised or act so defensive when other posters show dislike of floyd. Now where does it say there about making up random crap or discrediting legitimate accomplishment? :huh

    This is wrong.

    When boxing was on free TV, you could count on one hand the number of fighters who earned anything from endorsements.

    You are wrong.

    Sports weren't even making money from endorsements like that. Cable put the money into sports. Even NBA, NFL, and Pro-Baseball players from the 70's made peanuts.

    Endorsements on the monetary level they are on now are a recent invention.

    I can't agree more.

    Not sure where you live but in The US to see the HBO and SHO boxing programs you have to sign on for a $30-50 USD per month expense! On top of your $50 USD per month cable bill.

    They are pricing the fans right out.

    They don't though, look at the push that Amir Khan is getting in America, he does not deserve that more than Alexander or Bradley,but if GBP have their way,Americans will think Khan is the best fighter at 140,even without fighting the best.

    That was back in the day, did any other athletes get much in the way of endorsements in say the 70's

    I take your point though, I am not for 1 second suggesting boxing would have a version of say Jordan or Agassi, but they would make alot more money without PPV being the be all and end all, simply by being famous and known to the general public.

    Trust me I aint wrong, PPV is killing boxing
