With physical tools, Bob Arum chose a light middleweight who was beat by Margarito at welterweight for a reason, although we know what Arum doesn't: Martinez is far more dangerous than some small-ass Argentinean slugger and is a very live underdog.

Dumb post...really. People lost all sense of perspective with Pavlik because of what happened against Hopkins. Not every fighter that can box a little is Hopkins you know. Each fight is different, not everybody can just go out there and replicate that.

Pavlik can win this fight by being competetive early in the fight. Martinez does slow down, and when he does he's very vulnerable because of his reflex based defence. That is when Pavlik is going to be able to use his size, strength and power.

We'll see how dumb it is on the 18th!

A clever and effective counter puncher will beat a straight down the line power puncher with no variety every day of the week.

If Pavlik proves me wrong then I'll take my hat off to him.

Martinez tired vs Williams like Williams Pavlik is a volume puncher he is gonna wear him down tire him out with high punch volumes his good defense will prevent big shots Martinez will gas Pavlik will be all over him.

Gamblers Advisory has a good prediction record, but I think this time he's wrong. Margarito "ran Martinez out of the ring", to quote Max Kellerman. Pavlik does the same thing to his opponents (see Taylor). Don't be fooled by the Pavlik vs Hopkins fight, BHop was on his toes all night, whereas Martinez is flat-footed (like Taylor). If Pavlik beat TAylor on points, he can also beat Martinez on points. Martinez has a lot in common with Taylor: he showed a stamina problem against Williams, and Pavlik has endless stamina.

I understand that Williams and Pavlik are both volume punchers but what your failing to realize is that they are 2 different type of volume punchers!!!!

Williams will continually punch from all angles make it seem as if he is swarming you!!

Pavlik will continually punch only if you are in front of him!!!!

Both guys have great stamina but Pavlik is more of puncher who needs to set up and plant his feet to get his shots off!

And when you say his good defense who are you referring too??

Meh...the comparison between Taylor and Martinez doesn't hold water for me. Two totally different fighters. Martinez has improved markedly since the Margarito fight as well.

Learn the meaning of the word robbery. Even if you think Martinez edged it - which you might be interested to no I did aswell - it was a close, competitive fight that could have gone either way. Of course Pierre Benoist's scorecard was a disgrace, but scoring it 115-114 for Williams or 114-114 all hardly classifies as a robbery in a close, competitive fight that could have gone either way, does it?

Williams is not the same size as Pavlik
    Quicker? Maybe
More active? Kelly has a decent volume but isn't throwing arm punches
    Williams a better figther? :rofl

Williams did everything he could to make Martinez look good and didn't win in a clear fashion.

Pavlik just needs to fight like Pavlik. If he's able to connect with a right hand early, he'll win just by throwing twice as many punches as Martinez, and Pavlik is a lot harder to hit than Williams. Watch the Cintron fight and you'll see what I mean. While Martinez clearly won that fight, he wasn't exactly dominant, and he was hesitant to throw in fear of being countered by that right hand.

Literally, my only hesitancy with this one is that Pavlik has never fought a good southpaw.
