What do you guys make of this fight? Renzo is clearly passed his best but he's a legend in MMA as is Matt Hughes. Ironic to think that Renzo was instrumental in the UFC's creation but has never fought for the organisation. Iv got Hughes as the obvious favourite via GnP.

Hasn't the UFC signed Renzo to something silly like a 7 fight deal. Renzo is old and hasn't fought for a while. Hughes is old. Some people think he hasn't evolved but it could just be that he is old now. Hughes should defeat another Gracie but at this stage of their careers anything could happen.

Yeah but they can give him the heave ho at any point.

Hughes via GnP unfortunantly. I'd love to see Renzo win, he is an awsome guy.

Renzo pulls something out to prevent Hughes from his lay and pray. Beebs is probablly going to verbally kick my ass for saying that.

Whoa are you kidding? Wow Dana really has no shame whatsoever. Renzo has been fighting sporadically for the best part of a decade. At 43 7 fights is not a good look in the slightest. Thats a disgraceful contract if you ask me. Renzo's a great guy but i dont give him any chance at 170 whatsoever.

Renzo says he may try 155. At 185 you could see quite a bit of fat so who knows. Ive locked up with the guy when he was showing me out to do something at his seminar last year and he didnt feel much bigger then my 150. 43 is just a number though its about how you feel man. Renzo looked good in his last 4 fights only loss a close fight to BJ. The UFC signed Couture to a new 6 fight deal and hes already halfway through it at 46 years old.

I'd love to see Renzo win, but unfortunately Hughes via GnP is most likely.

I love Renzo, he's a wicked guy and is a true legend of the sport but I'm not convinced he can compete with the top boys at WW these days.

Dont be shocked if he can compete though. After he had his knee operated on and came back in 05 he fought very well in those 4 fights. Fought BJ very tough and clearly won the first round the lost a decision, choked out Pat Miletich quickly, defeated Carlos Newton and dominated Frank Shamrock before winning by DQ. Obviously Renzo is 3 years older now but he hasnt likely put any real wear and tear on his body. Renzo cant mess with GSP in a MMA fight although I doubt they would fight each other anyway but id give him a chance agianst anyone else.

Hughs isn't exactly wash-up these days, he has been losing to some of the sport's best fighters.

I think Renzo is better off his back than Serra. I would have picked Renzo with little hesitation several years ago, he may be too old now.

Hughes by decision is the safe pick, but I think Renzo submits him.

It makes sense that Renzo will fight in the United Arab Emirates vs Hughes. I am sure that he was partially instrumental for the 10% investment stake in Zuffa being bought by a Dubai company. According to Wikipedia: "He has also been the personal jiu-jitsu teacher of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, since 1993".
Part of the terms of the deal probably has Gracie a percentage share and a contract to fight.

Renzo has already said he is looking to move to 155 after that because he is struggling to stay at 170. It's not great when a guy is admitting he is fighting 15 pounds north of his natural weight class and that is at 43!

Not great but it also shows how tough he is. This guy fought Dan Henderson at 185 when he belongs at 155. Or **** I almost forget he whopped on Heavyweights Oleg Takatorv and Maurice Smith. Renzo Gracie is a badass in every sense of the word. Also kind of stupid though because id never let what Sakuraba did to him happen to me :yep Just tap pal. I have his DVD where he admitts that was the most pain he had ever been in his entire life.

Renzo got balls of iron. That break was nasty!! His elbow was turned completely the other way and he didnt even wince in pain or even think about tapping. And he was so gracious in defeat. Renzo's the man. Definitly my favourite Gracie.

Another part that showed his toughness imo is how he plays it off like it feels alright. Alot of guys will yell, scream, ***** and whatever while Renzo was acting like people where telling him dirty jokes. Made me sick 3 years ago when people said Renzo might have been faking agianst Shamrock  Yeah he will fake it to get out of a fight with a man who hes dominating but he wont tap out when his arm is breaking.

Don't get all worked up about the 7 fight contract you guys, I am sure it doesn't mean that Renzo will ACTUALLY fight 7 more times but it is just a business decision. Under contract it means if he fights again he gets paid whatever the contract amount is, under a 7 fight contract if the UFC wants they can basically lock him up from going to any of the other orgs, etc. etc.
