i know i am in the minority here and dont mind being told so but i think buchanan is overrated .my only happy thought while awaiting all the flack i will get is that ray arcel thought ken was overrated to.

I know him as much as many in that time.....not a lot, and a lot of me thinks similar, maybe his biog was the nail in the coffin. Not that i would seriously judge such a man/fighter........... Before the slap to the balls, Duran was easily ahead on all cards if i remember right........ ? Be it honest or not, i dunno.
Lynch Buchanan McGowan Then Watt,Patterson,Calderwood, Keenan,Harrison,Jacobs. One thing, there wont be any heavyweights on it.
Round up Keenan for me, if u wish, when you have the time. How do you see many of them now, in there respective weight divisions, old or new, given todays current standards ? I ask this to save the many, xxxxxxxx VS xxxxxxxx etc etc
I would put Lynch second only to Wilde at Fly . Keenan was a tough little man who was European level imo, he could past get past Willie Toweel. Buchanan makes a lot of top 10's at Light ,and did very well in a poll of the greatest at the weight on this forum. Jacobs was a game box fighter who found his limitations when he challenged Sweet Pea , and Buddy McGirt.a good European level guy.

maybe so but the first time arcel saw buchanan he had not worked with duran ,this is how one version of the story goes................................ arcel was walking on central park west and he bumped into joey leonard who was benny leonards brother .joey said to arcel "there's a guy fighting in the garden who's one of the best boxers i have ever looked at.his name is ken buchanan and he's another benny valgar .now to arcel this was a pretty big deal as arcel said "benny valgar was the first boxer who made me realize it's brain over brawn,the first boxer i ever saw who could feint another man out of position". so arcel went to the garden and had a look,arcel thought in buchanan he saw a good boxer ,a british boxer from scotland but i did not see any benny valgar .arcel also says i didn't see any mental energy ,i didn't see a lot of things that the average guy woundn't be looking for,but buchanan was very good . these are arcel's thought's before he was working with duran
I might add that Walter held all those titles at the same time. No I'm not George Francis' son. I'm Alan Rudkin's son, the man that Walter borrowed those Bantam titles from. My top 3 would be Lynch, McGowan and Buchanan in no particular order. Walter's record doesn't quite reflect his brilliance. He had everything apart from good skin round the eyes.
Arcel was a big fan of Jack Kid Berg though :yep Wonder how a fight between Ken and Jack would of went.
