Okay Who Haye? I actually think Toney is more funny because of his absurdness. So that's your definition of charisma? The Klit brothers are professional sportsman and maybe more interesting or likable people to you but that aren't more charismatic. How do they and Valuev for that matter have the same magnetism and charm? If they had charisma they wouldn't suffer so much in America, and people would know the difference between the brothers. Haye has brought more excitement and appeal in the HW division since anything of note. Because of you taking upon your own definition of the word. You've got quite an unusual understand of charismatic to think Valuev was. You can't alter language (Words) to your own accord. That is why you're wrong.
I´m pretty sure Haye will never have as much watchers as either Klitschko. The Klitschkos have between 15-20 million people watching their fights in Germany alone. How does Haye compare? That´s true. Valuev´s fights were watched by around 6 million watchers in Germany alone. How many watched Haye´s?
Let's not even discuss how many watch Wladimir Klitschko, his last 3-5 fights have been practically unwatchable. Seriously. He doesn't even have an excuse, with his power and physical advantages he should be knocking these guys out inside 6-7 rounds. I don't mean for them to fall over like Thompson or give up like Chageav, I mean..knock them out.
True. I still like watching his fight. He is executing his style perfect. I appreciate that. Better than Lewis did - and no that does not mean I think he is better than Lewis.
This thread is clearly heading into some unnecessary discussion about semantics. But if you can't judge charisma, then how do you determine what is or isn't charismatic? Sure, maybe we don't see this side of Wlad but from what I see he lacks that appeal, charm, etc. If we can't determine what is or isn't charismatic then what is charisma? It is nothing, it's an empty word that lacks a meaning and definition. This is just not the case. I don't subscribe to this wide-open interpretation of things; similarly to a lot of the other things in life, not just language. Your last sentence by the way completely contradicts your earlier assertions. Yes, there is a different between charisma and just being loud and brash. With that, you're judging a distinction between what is and isn't charisma (So you do think you can judge charisma). Exactly. Toney said that Hopkins mom must've ****ed a goat because he rams his head in. Maybe that's hilarious in its silliness but there's nothing charming or charismatic with acting like that. And continued with the contradictions. Of course you can, that's what the definition is for. Sure there's an interpretation - one which should be narrow and true to it's original intent. If not, then an interpretation can just be of an interpretation of an interpretation and then we would have a snowball effect. Valuev isn't charismatic, period.
That's nice, and that's your frame of mind. But the pre-hype of a fight is almost half the fight. That's part of the magic, and we when we see the masses in anticipation and electrified it's something we can't ignore. Half of what makes great fights is what the current climate is. Ali vs Frazier I, Schemling vs Louis II. And I'm not just speaking of just the bravado "trash-talk" of things. If it gets people excited about things it makes things more important. It makes the fight seem more important, and then this is something that boxing fans usually just can't ignore.
Aha, so is this an inadvertent admission that Mayweather is charismatic? Is this your criteria. I understand appeal is part of charismatic but I differentiate between the excitement of a country having a HW champ and a person being charismatic. For example, I don't consider Tyson to be charismatic but his fighting style was electric which created massive amounts of appeal. Hope that makes sense. I don't know. Haye's doing PPV fights now.
No, not really. But if fighters who have a boring style still have so many people care about them and watching them than it is an indication that there is something more with them. Add to that that Wlad get´s more media coverage in Germany than any other fihgter in the world get´s in his country and so the people over here know him better than anywhere else and you have another one. Klitschko is not German. He does not see himself as German and Germans don´t see him as German either. So, this has nothing to do with a country having a hw champ but with his person. I agree with the Tyson thing. Can´t see how he is charismatic.
George Foreman, especially in his second career, was one of the most charismatic Heavweight champions of all time. Some of the **** he would say to the press, and when he started his career as a commentator for HBO is just priceless. I think he upset Jim Lampley though. Why do you think Wlad gets so much coverage in Germany. Why make assumptions that there is something more to why people watch Wlad? The Germans are a weird crowd. It's like they silently watch an opera taking place. Wlad is their adopted champion, and he's the HW champ... that is why they watch. Bah... all this media coverage and you're trying to tell me Germany hasn't adopted the Klitscko brothers as their own? And even so, doesn't mean he's charismatic. He could be, but us on the West aren't really exposed to that. Maybe a lot of it has to do with him always fighting their, and they appreciate that. Boxing is big abroad and in Europe and he fights their all the time. Fighting Wlad in is like fighting him on his home turf.
Get a ****ing life if you are looking for charisma from fighters. Writers are for words. Actors are for performances. Boxers are for boxing. That's it. And I, I am for getting pissed.
