The bottom line of your posts in this thread Maybe it is because we Germans are boring people ourselves. Good for you. :good
It was the single most awesome thing i've ever seen on this forum. I didn't even post, I just read, I didn't want to disrupt their rythym.
Do you call BMW's Bavarian cars? We call them German cars. I know its not in Bavaria, and I know BMW stands for Bavarian Motor Works, but thats the way even BMW markets their brand here and accross the world.
It´s "Bayerische Motoren Werke" which is "Bavarian Engine Plants" in English. I know they market themselves as German, doesn´t change the fact they are Bavarian. Those marketing guys are just no proud Bavarian seperatists :bart
In english it translates to Bavarian Motor Works in America. Even my Alpina paperwork says Buchloe, Germany on it, not Buchloe Bavaria. I can post a picture for you but yes what you wrote is on the plaque of all my cars.
Here from their own website "Originally ALPINA started business in a section of the ALPINA typewriter factory in a town called Kaufbeuren. In 1965 they relocated to Buchloe, Germany (a small town about an hour west of the Bavarian capital, Munich) where they are still to this day."
Nah, I believe you. Bavaria is German since our King Ludwig II. sold Bavaria´s independence to the then Prussian chanceloor and soon to be German chancellor Bismarck for money to build some new fairy-tale castles like "Neuschwanstein". Ludwig II. was mentally ill and later drowned. Some think it was murder other that it was suicide. Neither was ever proven. Sad, sad story overall. and we Bavarians suffer from it till today. Bismarck said back then "Bavaria does not need Germany but Germany needs Bavaria. Without it there is no Germany." That´s true until today. We Bavarians are proud of it the rest of Germany is jealous of it. Without Ludwig II. there would have been no German Empire, no WWI and no WWII.
I am looking forward to seeing the new BMW World and visiting Alpina sometime in the near future when I can find the time. I have two small kids so going to Europe is a little tough right now. :good
