I hear Mando was pretty wasted by the time Chango got him(not to take nothing from Chango). My dad tells me that Chango beat a beating on Ramos.

Oh some of the guys in my top 10 are Carbajal,Danny Lopez,Bobby Chacon,JohnnyTapia,Orlando Canizales,Manny Ortiz,ODLH

Some of the other guys in the top 30 or 50 are Raul Rojas,Rafeal Ruelas,Hector Lopez,Zack Padilla,Robert Quiroga KID COLIMA one of the first Chicano fighters of note. Also Johnny Romero who has a win over Archie Moore!!

Incidentally where do you have Danny Romero... he was fun to watch... I did not expect Tapia to destroy him

I am not sure yet as many of the fighters are very close. Danny Romero was a beast in his prime and he was the slight favorite against a prime Tapia. Romero is probably the strongest fly ive ever seen and a true one punch ko artist at that weight. I think i was leaning towards him to beat Tapia even though i wasnt surprised Tapia won it, but i didnt think he would win that convincingly. Romero will probably end up between 30-40 although on ability at fly and JB you can make a case for top 30.

Also forgot to add Joey Olivo he fought at Hollenback (where i did as a youngster) i remember back then seeing film of him and Myung woo Yuh and he won that fight Yuh is considered by many on ESB here to be one of the greatest little guys ever. Yuh Won a Split decision in Korea so you figure it out who really won. Olivo was from Hazard he was a real tall fly like 5-8 and super fast (not much power) he also gave the great Zapata a tough fight. You know yuh is addies idol and thinks hes better than Chiquita Carbajal and Lopez, well my old stabelmate beat him but got robbed.:yep

I remember seeing him fight at Olympic and I was so impressed..although Tapia fought as well I was not impressed with him until I caught one of his HBO fights.

Had dinner with Pops today and asked him about these guys im comparing on ESB, he is very knowledgeable and seen a whos who of the top west coast and mexican fighters fight live in the last 40 years so his opinion I hold in hIgh regard. He had Palomino over Vargas without hestitation, and he is not some cranky old nostalic old man even though he is older than 90% of the classic posters he is not stuck in the past. He had Ramos slightly over Aragon. Told me i should have Canizales,Chacon over Tapia too but he admitted it was cause of Tapias light or average punching ability my dad has always been partial to puncher(Danny Lopez is his favorite). Said Chicanito should be above Vargas and only slightly behind Palomino. Surprised he told me Ernie Lopez was better than 1/2 the guys i mentioned on this thread reminded me if it wasnt for Jose Napoloes he would have been a good champion.

You forgot to place Paulie Ayala andTony Lopez.

But to answer you question in no particular order ODLH,Ortiz,Chacon,Tapia,Canizales,Carbajal,Danny Lopez are above those guys and possibly Aurelio Herrera. My pops said Ernie Lopez was better than half those guys on this thread. We will see i want to be set in my opinon before i put it out.

So your from La Puente?:good I live in West Covina from Rosemead originally we got a lot of SGV posters here on ESB. I was a fan of Baltazar too big puncher and very exciting but i can think of a lot of other guys above him and Montes the other ones you mentioned were better than those 2. Like Zack Padilla who is underrated, Margarito i guess techinally could be considered Mex/American since he was born here but he is raised in Tijuana. Yaqui Lopez is on the next list, Sandoval,Muniz and a lot of other guys that havent been mentioned.

    Ruben Navarro,Loreto Garza,Carlos Chavez,Fabela Chavez, Tony Ayala,Jess J Leija,Lupe Aquino,Oscar Albarado,Rudy Robles,Julio Gonzalez,Steve Cruz,Mike Ayala,Louie Espinoza,Jaime Garza,Juan Meza,Gaby Canizales are among many others yet to be mentioned
