Qutting when your getting the dog **** beaten out of you...is a lot different than quitting with 2 rounds to go pitching a near shutout on the cards against a man half your size. Liston was getting annihilated...Vitali was not. Liston was intimidating. Was he one of the most intimidating? Certainly for his era against smaller fighters. I do not rate him at the top though. I believe his strength was his best asset. People do not realize how strong Liston was. He was built like a superheavyweight in a 6'1 212lb frame. In my overall opinion, I believe Liston is a top 3 heavyweight of all time. I'll say this for Liston..Liston fighting on and finishing the fight with an extremley painful broken jaw..and storming back to knockout a dangerous slugger after getting his nose broken...That is bad ass stuff. That is intimidating. When did Vitali ever face adversity like this? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rLdggqtaWw[/ame] "He does not have the mentality of a champion"- Larry Merchant
Im with Suzie on this, he looks goofy and like a character out of the Simpsons with his giant overbite
Nice try. (sarcasm) I thought intimidating champions would only go out on their shield, yet Liston quit in a fight THAT WAS EVEN ON THE CARDS. Not exactly getting the dog **** beat out of him, which was not even his excuse, by the by. The next fight he cowered like a child on the canvas after one very dubious shot. I think having your face carved up like a Sunday Ham was more adversity than Liston's alleged boo-boo on his shoulder. Vitali wanted to continue in that fight because he smelled the championship.
Yeah, Liston quit like a sorry bum too. Let's be honest. I dont think Clay was even beating him badly. Maybe it was the shoulder, and Liston being a one-armed fighter was a pile of **** when that left was not firing right, because he was consistently useless with the right hand. Either way it was a shitty quit job, and laughable that Liston (and Clay's performance) are glorified so much these days.
I would have to say Tyson. Others that come to mind, but are behind Tyson, in my opinion, are V. Klitschko, Foreman, Liston, Ron Lyle, Butterbean....just kidding about that one.
Yeah, this has got to be the worst angle I've ever seen of Valuev in my life. Looks like a Rick Baker creation straight outta a horror movie.
