Official Pavlik VS. Martinez Poll--April 17th

I don't think Martinez will stop Pavlik but he's the right type of puncher to stop him. Pavlik will walk through big jitters like Miranda all day, because he has a good chin, but if you can catch him unaware, he can be hurt. The darting attacks will bother Pavlik because he won't be expecting them.

Pretty similar to how Margarito was stopped. He took huge shots but when Mosley leaped into an off-balance left hook, Margarito was hurt. He'd took bigger punches throughout the fight, but the one he didn't see hurt him badly. Similarily, Taylor hurt Pavlik with a shot he didn't see but couldn't capitalize.

I doubt Martinez will get the stoppage but his long straight left is the type of punch which will hurt Pavlik. It's the unexpected shots that will do the damage because, like I said, a guy like Miranda is just too obvious for such a good chin.

 

His sparring partner said that when he first started with Kelly he could land that punch, but Kelly (gasp) adjusted and took it away from him. I could ask if you know that they watch film and train on these things in sparring, but then again, you said in another thread that mitt work is meaningless and is only done for show. atsch

Margarito was stopped because he was being hit repeatedly by a power puncher. It's as simple as that. It was nothing to do with angles or disguised punches; it was just brutality. (He actually looked like he could have continued at the KO; it was a mercy stoppage as much as anything else.) Martinez will not hurt Pavlik because he does not hit hard enough.

 

According to KP's two main sparring partners Sergio's two best weapons, the right hook and the lead left, are null and void.

 

So I hear. Things look promising. I think he's really gearing up to do an absolute job on SM.

 

Actually, I'm starting to wonder if it is a bad move to go from one southpaw to another in his next fight? After hearing those guys talk and their observations? :think

 

You still predicting a 'call out' of Pdub? Looks like Kelly and crew have resigned themselves to the fact that the Ring #2 MW wants none. They still TALK like they want the titles, but they also know Kelly will move up soon. I guess they can try and pick up a vacated belt, but the linear shot goes away. The Ring Belt goes away too. I don't understand how they can put him at #2 anyhow. He gets his lunch money taken from him by any number of the guys they ranked him over.

 

As overrated as Kelly becomes among his fans on here, he should not lose to SM. I'm expecting Pavlik to beat him a lot more convincing than Williams.

But, I'd still pick Williams over Pavlik :deal
