Not much sweet science in this one,but a ******* of a brawl ! Would 'Two Ton' Tony's harder punch force the ref to rescue Chuvalo ? Would Chuvlao's better conditioning outlast Galento ?
I'll assume that the official is fairly lenient. Both guys had incredible chins, and while Galento had better power, Chuvalo was probably more skilled and I think in a fight where a KO proves to be a very difficult proposition, skill becomes the determining factor. Chuvalo wins a UD in a hard fought, crowd-pleasing encounter
this is a real smash up! chuvalo of the late 1950s would lose to the guy joe louis fought. chuvalo of mid 1960s would hold his own with tony and it would be a 50-50 pick em if I was making the odds. I think galento was a greater threat to the title than chuvalo ever was dispite chuvalo being a contender for much longer.
It would be interesting to see how Two Tons power played here. I suspect that it was at a level where a TKO might be possible. If not then give me Chuvalo.
Don't know if Galento had the stamina to go the distance with Chuvalo and I would have George winning on a TKO. I would like to see Tex Cobb battle Chuvalo.
Gallento never won a fight on the scorecards that went past 10 rounds, although he scored knockouts past that distance. This shoulf be taken as an argument in favour of Chuvalo if it goes the distance.
tony may have had not the power but not the accuracy. frazier elicited a tko by connecting constanting and consistently. foreman did so with bludgeoning power. i don't think galento would land nearly enough and his shots didn't carry nearly the visibly force foreman's did. as dempsey said "if all fights were 100 rounds, george chuvalo would be heavyweight champion of all time"
Chuvalo was a much better fighter although Galento might have had an edge in Power. Chuvalo by comfortable decision or late stoppage.
