Good boxing books

Just finished reading War,Baby by Kevin Mitchell about the Benn Mclellan fight interesting insight into the world of boxing and the characters of g-man and benn very sad though i think, I would recommend that to anyone if they are intreseted in the events surrounding the fight and a bit of background on warren King Benn Mclellan and a few others that where involved.

Currently reading Falling hard a Rookies Year in boxing its about a rookie boxing reporter and his first year reporting boxing for a paper a fairly interesting read not too enlightening but fairly intresting to read about some of the fights from a journalists perspective

 

Only just getting into reading the books really so any behind the scenes access or info regarding the fights/boxing im lapping up at the moment onto my 3rd book this week went the library and got a card took the entire boxing section out in one go:shock:

 

Just finished reading a few books the past few months/weeks

Nigel Benns autobiography - Ok standard sort of thing for this type of genre mildly interesting with a few decent snippets but not much i didnt already know

Mickey Duff autobiography - Very good read I would highly recommend this to anyone with any interest in boxing he has the inside story on pretty much every British fighter from 50's-90's and his involvements with Ray Robinson Rocky Marciano the Kray twins fascinating read

Donald McRae The Dark Trade - A good read but found it lagging in places and from what i have heard abut the book in general was slightly disappointed but still a good read nontheless about McRae's experiences with some of the sports big names of the past 25 years

Budd Schulberg Ringside a treasury of boxing reportage - This is a great book Schulberg has an opinion and a story on many of the sports biggest names since the beginning of last century. At sometimes its repetitive but gives some good perspective on fighters and i found the bio of Mike Jacobs particularly fascinating.

Thomas Hauser the Black Lights - Here is another great book gives an inside look of how the fight game works from the managerial and promotional aspect whilst also closely following the story of a few fighters and their emotions leading up to fights and what boxing means to fighters and the people involved in it and how the politics behind the scenes affects this.
