If you leave GSP out of the equation, would BJ be the UFC's best welterweight right now?

Good question. I like Fitch but I dont see the whole grinding thing giving BJ to many problems. GSP was able to wear BJ down and get takedowns but GSP had better striking to set it up and his wrestling is a notch better then Fitch and so is his GNP. Would be somewhat competitive but BJ takes it.

I think that Penn is capable of beating most of the top welterweights in the UFC. I believe that Penn could make an argument for being the top welterweight, but I don't believe he could be as dominate as GSP. I believe Penn would have to avenge losses from time to time at 170.

A focused and trained Penn could beat GSP. Could being the key word. So yes he could make an argument for being the best WW.

I think so. The only guy I think could conceivably give BJ trouble would be Thiago Alves because of his size. strength and powerful striking - but I still think BJ takes him down if he needs to and either submits him or GnPs his way to a decision. BJ penn is a baaaaad man!

Beating Diego Sanchez and Ken Flo doesn't translate into beating Fitch,Alves and Kos. People have to realize this, sure he he has gone up in weight before and handled himself well but he has a losing record which people tend to ingnore.

I think BJ is a tough fight for anybody at any weight but why are people acting like he will walk through everybody with ease?

You guys need to get your tongue off BJ's bag, taking down Joe Daddy doesn't mean you take Alves down? Kos had trouble taking Alves down but BJ will? BJ has a great ground game but when has he shown expolosive TD's?

Simple. Because Fitch, Alves and Koscheck don't have BJ's ground game. His jiujitsu is on another level from those cats. Of the three listed - only Fitch has the chance to hang with him on the ground.

I just see Fitch becoming a breakout star here pretty soon. Him and Alves give BJ the toughest fight at 170 mark my words. :yep

No. Simply because BJ would not be able to whip himself into top shape(Fight with GSP) to wipe out a higher and entire division.

He is more often than not, his own worst enemy.
