iv watched it again and again and iv always gave it barrera by 1
    second fight was clearly morales
and the third fight i could only see barrera winning clearly i dont know if its just me
but the first fight is interesting when you look at both fighters qualities in the fight the reason it was so close is cause the moment someone looked to take over the other would have none of it and fight back i feel that barrera won on his quality of shots the pressure he gave and he always found a way to knick the closest rounds

It's been a while since I've seen them, but remember thinking the scoring in the first two fights were wrong. That's the great thing about boxing, you can debate a great fight until the end of time and unless you are a judge in Texas, your opinion is still valid.

This fight was brutal. I have EM winning the first two with MAB winning the 3rd fight.

Maybe your criteria has changed. BUT if you seriously value effective punching and ring generalship then Barrera bossed an awful lot of the fight, his punches were far more effective and far more damaging and he was the 1 coming forward and pushing Morales back. Morales threw allot but his shots were nowhere near as effective

I had 114-113 or 115-112 for Barrera. It was close but Barrera won, IMO.

    Card?

I thought Morales's ring generalship was pretty great to be honest. His defence was sloppy throughout, but there were times when he was outboxing and outlanding MAB. Other than the 1st three rounds, I don't recall thinking at any time that Barrera was bossing the action. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Morales was a clear winner, my card finished 114-113 MAB remember, but the fight is closer than I thought it was, a draw or a razor-thin margin either way.

He didn't take 7 rounds. He didn't hit MAB enough for me to give him the nod in fight 2. He had a tired MAB in front of him, and couldn't capitalize...

Fights 1 and 3 could go either way.....I had MAB winning fight one razor close........and after Jim Lampley spent the whole evening in fight 3 in orgasmic pleasure, I just shook my head as my scorecard read a draw.

The clearest of them all was fight 2. I had it like 8 rounds to 3 and 1 even.
It was'nt close either visually or on my card......that fight I call on outright robbery.

Through the trilogy, I came out of it with the belief that Morales was the superior boxer, but that MAB pushed the right buttons through it all to get Morales mentally out of a boxing game and into a give and take game, which because of his better speed, benefits him more than it does Morales.

**** "ring generalship" and all that voodoo horse****, I go by the number of punches, given that it's the only objective measure of performance in the ring short of a KO, and according to Compubox Erik outlanded MAB in power shots over the course of the fight. Not by much, and if memory serves, MAB landed slightly more jabs, but in my system a landed power shot is worth 3 jabs.

Course, CB doesn't say WHERE the punch landed, obviously a punch flush on the kisser is worth a lot more than one on the guys gloves, but accuracy tends to remain constant both between 2 fighters and between rounds for a fighter.

I gave the fight to Erik by one round, I could see (but still wouldn't agree with) the case for a Draw given either that bogus 'knockdown' in the 12th or the effect of MAB's punches on Erik's historically easily-bruised cheeks, but nonetheless have absolutely no doubt that the result, however unpopular, was in fact the correct one.

Stupidity. I'm a Morales fan but even I concede (and therefore others like you should have NO trouble acknowledging) that he isn't the sharpest tool in the box. Great athlete, great slugger, but is no strategist. He was likely advised by his dad in his corner to wait until the middle rounds for an aging MAB to tire, and when this didn't happen, Morales senior had no Plan B.

(Jose') "Erik amigo, ehhhh, you needa go outta there anda knocka eeema out right now".

(Erik) "But papa, you a say eee only a tired, you seguro he ready to go down?"

(Jose') "Sure son, ahmmm...jes hit him ahard".

    (Erik) "Ermmm...si, Papa..."

    :)

Erik sprang into action, but by then it was too late, he was already 5 rounds down, granted he took most of the rest of the rounds but NOT all of them, and that's why he lost. All my opinion, of course.

I don't know what my exact score was and I haven't watched it in a while but I remember thinking that Morales was the winner and I was pretty surprised when I realized that people thought the decision went the wrong way.
