Comparing Roy Jones And Bernard Hopkins Resume

i am a jones dickrider and i rate him in the top 20 of all time. his resume is very, very good. not great though. if he had fought the best of his time, he'd be top 10 all time, no questions asked. anyone calling his resume **** is a hater or ignorant. however, you can easily poke holes in his resume and identify key fights he missed out on which affected his greatness and legacy.

 

He did fight the best of his time, he just wasn't in the golden era of boxing. Thats not his fault. It's safe to say Roy Jones is the greatest boxer in the last 20 years (the current generation). Hopkins could be greater if he goes and beats Haye, but beyond something like that Hopkins is not going to be greater.

 

Go Roy!! One of the best in his prime. could beat anyone from 160 to 175 in his prime.

 

he fought SOME of the best. for one reason or another fights weren't made with mcclellan, collins, benn, prime calzaghe, julian jackson, DM, or lennox lewis. there were certain key fights that would have taken roys legacy to that next level. as it stands, aside from toney, he was never really in a fight he wasn't heavily favoured. for good reason mind you but it's the same criticism mayweather gets. there were fights that could have put him in the top 10 (i know they weren't all his fault but still...)

 

I rate him number 5 all time.

Three divisions he dominated and WON a title at heavy.

Very few have accomplished a ten year reign as boxings best, he's done it.

Athletically he was amazing to watch in the ring ..His combination of power and speed is what set him apart from the rest in the sport .I know now you have fast fighters but do they have the hands and the legs to do what Jones could do at his best ?

 

Jones is ahead of Hopkins on the ATG list...how? Who knows? Boxing is fickle like that.

I think Hopkins will go down ahead of Jones on the ATG list because of his reign at middleweight. He's definitely in top 3 of all time at that weight IMO and pretty good at Lightheavy. Jones might even have a better resume but when was his last meaningful win?

Jones...top 60...Hopkins...top 65...so, he's ahead, but not by much, imho.

Hopkins is so ahead of Jones it is not even funny. I was there when Hopkins called out Jones after he beat Simon Brown. Roy was scared. I will never forget. If Hopkins and Jones faced each other in 2000 give or take a year Bhop would have knocked him out.
Jones has to move down for the ducking and losing 6 of his last 11.
Hopkins KO of Trinidad was TREMENDOUS. Kelly Pavlik was one of the most underrated stories of the past few years. You are talking about two fights right there that nobody gave the guy a chance and he won almost almost every round of those fights.
Beating Tarver, Knocking out ODLH with a body shot. Most underrated of all time.
You can't judge a fighter for one block of his career. If he decides to fight he risks his legacy. it is the whole body of work you must look at. Hopkins should be a top 25 best of all time if you account for the age, his life, the uphill battle, one of best defensive fighters and beating Pavlik at 45 proves the case. You can't name another fighter that could face Pavlik, Calzhage and Jones and hardly get touched or remotely hurt.

 

Thats a load of crap. He wasn't favored against Hopkins, or Ruiz. He wasn't really favored against Trinidad either. These fights alone are better than Floyd Mayweathers resume.

And who else has went up to heavyweight? Until someone else does it, this speaks for itself. If Hopkins were to go up and beat Haye, or even Valuev I would give him credit.
