At least one person appreciates what you did tonight. Very well done and pulled off a sensational victory with the last round KO. To think he fought most of the fight with one arm - brilliant stuff and good luck. :good
Kos - I am only online 5 mins ago - so only had a quick scan. The crowd still booed him when he won. I have criticised harrison a zillion times in the past - but he won my admiration - I didnt think he had it in him.
I would like to see Sexton v Harrison - I think that would be a crackin fight and a natural step for Sexton. I would like to see Rogan get a couple of tune up fights after his op and then take it from there.
I'm pleased for him it will have done wonders for his confidence and self esteem to be honest i was starting to worry about his mental health slightly with some of his more outlandish statements. It was nice to hear him congratulate sprott on a good gutsy fight and show some humilty in admitting that it was a fight he really needed to win if he was going to keep going rather than calling out world champions.
im a self confessed fraudley hater....BUT HATS OFF TO THE MAN! HE FOUGHT WITH 1 ARM & grit + determination knocks sprOUT OUT!!!! :good
I'm a fan of Audley's and I'm very happy for him that he won. I know he can say some silly things, and personally I don't think he's ever going to be world champion (though I'd love him to prove me wrong), but there's a lot about him that has my respect and admiration. He takes a lot of stick - probably more so than any other boxer I can think of - some of it may be justified, but a lot is unnecessary and unwarranted. I remember the first time he fought on Sky (can't remember the opponent off the top of my head sorry) but the entire Sky team crucified him harshly and unnecessarily like no other boxer, just because it's the "in" thing to hate on Audley Harrison. Even last night, the commentary was tinged with more negative bias than neutral observation. I recall on his ring walk, Ian Darke pointing out all the stupid nicknames he's been called such as "A Farce", "Fraudley", "Audrey" etc. Was it really necessary to highlight that? Loads of boxers get stupid nicknames by the "fans", such as "Void" Mayweather, "Calslappy", etc. I've never heard Sky waffle on about them and underhandedly embarrass the boxer in question. Even the foreign imports that we know are here to fill up a card and fall over get shown more respect by Sky, especially even before the bout has even started. Anyway, just a minor example to illustrate my point. However, despite taking **** from all angles, excessively and cruelly, he hasn't given up or crumbled. As I said, I don't think he's ever going to be a world beater in the professional ring, but the man has the courage to still believe and actively pursue his dreams. He keeps getting in there - in the hardest sport of all - facing all the constant spite and ridicule that he does, under the most scrutinous and harshest of public spotlights, and he hasn't given up. That takes guts and that takes character. For that I have a lot of admiration for him. I'm not defending some of the things he may have said, or glorifying any of his weaker performances. I'm not stupid. I know he has faults. But at least he always turns up in shape unlike a lot of the current crop of heavyweights, and he has shown far more about his character than I suspect a lot of people will ever be able to. Best of luck to him, I wish him well.
:happy :deal Absolutely Superb post. I like Audley because he is the underdog, whilst he was handed it on a plate by the BBC and his performances in the ring always were far away from what he showed in the Olympics. The hate he gets in here is absolutely disgusting at times (as is the hate for Khan & Hatton (since he lost against Mayweather/Pacman) And he does have a certain style which makes you shout at the TV saying "Throw a punch Audley"!! he still has that bit of class that draws you into watching him. The guy is entertaining and his career has been from being absolutely annihilated by a hail mary from Sprott, to his lacklustre horrific performance against Danny Williams, to the highs of prizefighter, the Williams win and then this huge KO of Sprott. He'll never make it at world level because he will never be busy enough and doesn't throw enough punches. But the man always comes up with some sort of surprise and I hope he does have a world title shot to look back on in his career. Good luck Audley.
I always did hope this guy would find it inside of himself to step up and really take a shot at the brass ring. Congrats and lets hope he finds a way to a title shot.
I hate Harrison, but hats of to the guy tonight. He's been well up against it with the arm injury, had to switch to an unfamiliar stance, and been robbed of his regular jab. He's staring retirement in the face, but found a way to win with as spectacular a KO as I've seen of late. Dare I say it, but Harrison actually impressed me a little bit tonight with pulling that out the bag.
