Jesus just rewatched it there! Darren barker makes andy lee look like he has the stamina of a racehorse! i feel now any boxer/puncher with power beats barker now he was horrible last night. It was a draw for me but of course the hometown guy gets the nod. Some of the cards last night were down right disrespectful of belghechams effort too. Ah well good luck to barker hes going to need it ! i would avoid khoren gevor if i was in his team.
I was really disappointed with Barker - thought he was the real deal. Knew he didnt have the power but he seemed incapable of making the other guy miss and countering. His opponent was a poor mans Arthur Abraham, and if Barker did fight anyone like that he will end up like Elcock did. Judges were well out too. A growing pattern in Hennessy fights. As bad as McDonnell-Watson.
So how did you see this one go?? Here is my card - I scored Darren Barker first and then Affif Belghecham R1 10-9 R2 9-10 R3 10-9 R4 10-9 R5 10-9 R6 10-9 R7 9-10 R8 9-10 R9 9-10 R10 9-10 R11 9-10 R12 10-9 I had it a draw - 116-116. The only two rounds that were debatable in my mind were rounds 2 and 12. In round two Belgacham pressured and landed with a variety of flurries but at this stage Barker was landing with heavy authoritive shots and but Belghcham nicked it. Then half way through the 12th round Barker landed a strong three punch combo and made Belgacham miss with more than he had in previous round, the Frenchman pressured all the way and landed some heavy shots with 40 seconds to go and chased him to the end of the round but I think Barker was just ahead in that round. I could have scored either the 2nd or 12th either way which still would have made it a draw in my book. What say ye??
^It was a **** fight that I have no interest in over analysing. I don't understand why there's such a pissing contest between Lee, Barker and McEwan. All three are very average imo.
I was just speaking personally, specifically in relation to this fight. What makes you think Lee is so much better than Barker? Both seem similarly poor to me.
Well why post on a thread if you aint interested in it. I dont think Lee is miles ahead of Barker. I think they are pretty similar and equal in many regards but Lee is a little classier and carries a bigger punch. However, up until last night most English posters on here were slagging Lee off as a bum and a hype job and saying Barker was the second coming of SRL until last night. Just highlighting the bias!
tbf the irish boyz were sayin the same about barker! i think we've all seen that Barker is gonna have to step it up big time. i had him a round or two up but alot of rounds were close. i think Barker really gassed after the 6th and was fighting the Frenchmans fight. No way Barker could mix it with supermiddles, thats for sure.
Actually most of the Irish guys like Barker - they just got sick of people hyping him up whilst labelling Duddy and Lee hype jobs despite them having fought and beaten better than Barker had. Its all about perspective and I think a lot of English fans on here lack it!
To be honest mate i'm English and I'd support Irish boxers along with scottish and welsh. i dont see why there has to be a problem. i havent seen Lee fight personally so i cant comment on him. I think everyone has to admit that Duddy was a hype job, its academic now as hes been found out anyway. Do like Duddy's fighting spirit.
