Problem is that for the first half of that hundred years most of the champs from the US were "off the boaters" or first generation european immigrants...hardly home grown
So the USA v UK is fine (320-340 million v 60 million), but Europe 700+ v USA 320-340 isnt fair? (you mentioned the contender, as if it was a fair tournament) so if you back a country....its then your territory? The UK must have backed every country on the planet during its history, I guess the entire world is UK territory
No I mentioned the contender as in relation to another posters comments with the Ryder Cup. Take the contender and shove it up your ass if you need to but forget about it, besides none of the guys in it besides Cornelius Bungderage even matter anymore. And the reason I mention Cuba is because until the 'people's revolution' in Cuba the United States held right to intervene on any issue and the right to prohibit alliances with anyone we chose. Add that onto the fact that we were primarily responsible for the Batista family being in power.
Lets say each country gets 10 shots at boxing medals per olympics. The USA gets its 10 shots, Europe gets 100, which means that the US is capitalizing on its shots at a higher rate than the Europeans which means the US wins.
There is no rivalry. Just count how many champions each continent has. Recent events don't mean you take over boxing, or boxing reigns in your country... Just go to the numbers, or pick how many of the Ring's greatest fighters come from Europe and the U.S lol... Just say Europe is having its moment. Anyway, besides Froch, Haye, Wlad and Vitali, who else from Europe makes headlines???
Europe had far more "lifetime amateurs" because there was no incentive to drop amateur status if you couldn't turn pro. Even now europeans tend to stay amateur far longer, meaning that they often get an extra few years of seasoning, and also possibly a couple of olympic games. American prospects generally turn pro before they hit 20. Olympic gold isn't a predictor of future professional success anyway, so I'm not sure what the point is. Amateur and professional boxing have some significant differences. As I posted in another thread, 84 was a fantastic year for American boxing in the olympics, with something like 8 gold medals, but of those only 2 actually become professional stars.
Sorry that simple math ****ed up your point. But its the law of averages, if you get 100 shots at winning something compared to 10, the person with 100 should win more than the person with 10.
Oh, and by the way, who ****ing cares? This "rivalry" is dumb and exists only on internet message boards. A little trash talking can make things fun, a la the Super Six, but only for the sake of gamesmanship. Anyone who thinks that Europe is uniformly full of bums is dumb, and anyone who thinks that Europe is going to "take over" boxing is equally dumb. Great boxers come from all over, and will continue to do so.
Of course. Flores. Afolabi. Godfrey. Huck and Wlodarczyj already lost to Cunningham. Why mention them? And who are these other guys? What have the done? Sounds like you're just making up names. this is the problems with you Euro's you start listing fighers before they even accomplish anything. Its not 50/50 though. Chad Dawson would smoke any Euro lightheavyweight out there. I'd favor Jean Pascal over just about every Euro in that division. And if Bernard Hopkins comes back, forget about it. More excuses without an substance. I dont even rate Tavoris Cloud and havent even listed him, but come to think of it, he'd probably smoke most of the Euro's in the division. Erdei(scrub) Brahmer(scrub) Shumenov(9-1 scrub) Diaconu(Clowned by a one armed Pascal, Scrub) If those other fighters are listed are as bad as these guys, then Chad Dawson should move back down to 168, atleast there Euros can fight a little bit. I didnt make him hot ****. I dont know who you Euro's consider good. For instance you listed Shumanov up there who has only 10 fights and has already lost, how am I supposed to know what you consider good? Abraham was picked as the new favorite to win the tournament, Dirrell torched him. Bute has been beating C level fighters. Even Carl Froch has stated that he's fighting bums. And is Bute even European I thought he's claimed Canada now? Bute(hasnt fought anyone), Froch(Gift against Dirrell but may be the best Euro in the division, which is saying something), Stieglitz(who?) Abraham(Smoked by Dirrell), Kessler(Supposed to be the best, smoked easily by Ward) And Dirrell and Ward possess more skill in their pinky toes then any European in the division, save maybe Bute who's Canadian. Which is the general theme of the boxing world. Europeans = quantity. Americans = Quality.
listed? wtf does that mean? and no hes was born in England and lives between england and the USA, Ive spoken to him loads on facebook. This content is protected British with Nigerian heritage
