When does Silvas UFC contract finish? He's one of the ATG's but when he pulls the **** he did in the first two rounds i lose all respect for him. No point in attempting to goad a non-striker like Maia into a striking content. Rather leaves a bad taste in the mouth. As for the comparisons to Ali. **** Off.
Silva is a lying sack of ****. He ran around because Maia, who has 0 standup, was surprisingly good? Yeah, sure. Silva could have knocked Maia out in the first 15 seconds had he wanted to. I mean, he went up to 205 and clobbered the former light-heavyweight champion in no time. Notice that the two guys that he went the distance with recently both had 0 stand-up, yet Silva came up with the same lame excuse? More importantly, also note that both were Brazilian. **** Silva. War GSP.
I have not wanted a guy to win a fight so badly in a long long time. The goading was distastful as ****. Demian was obvioulsy very out matched standing up and Anderson was mocking him. ****. Hope GSP shmashes his face through the canvas.
Yes, taunting and mocking Maia for not engaging in an all out slugfest with him is inane. Did Maia mock and taunt Silva when he was trying to pull guard and Silva was having none of it. Striking is your game Silva. It's not Maia's responsibility to engage you.
Hell if Demian had managed to pull guard and sweep him I he would not have been mocking Andersons crap mount escapes.
I agree with your stance on Silva...he seemed very arrogant in the ring with a guy he should have just put out instead of looking to humilate him. But I think Anderson needs someone like GSP (i.e. a real challenge) for us to see how truly great Anderson is when he's "committed" to actually trying to fight. Silva would smash GSP in my opinion....
I agree. Unfortunantly.:barf Jacare would submit him. He is explosive enough to get the TD and it would be all but done if he landed in side control.
He just recently signed an 8 fight contract with UFC. I agree with that stupid taunting and clowning stunt he just pulled out. To make the matter worst it's freaking humid in abu dhabi and that stunt is just a waste of energy. **** silva for ruining this fight. I really hope GSP smashes him to pieces.
Unfortunately as the challenger.....His job is to find a way to "take" the title from the champion. If that called for him to become the aggressor outside his real of comfort then so be it. If you want to win the the title you have to take it from the champion and unfortunately Maia didn't have tools to truly compete with the kind of fighter Silva is.
Considering he had almost no chance to punch with Silva, you can't expect him to be the aggressor when it comes to striking. Yes, he has to do something to "take" the title, and that something is taking the fight to the ground. He failed at that and deservedly lost the fight. But Silva's taunting was stupid and uncalled for. When Maia was lying on his back trying to goad Silva into his guard, how stupid would it have been for him to say "Come on you coward, show me your ground skills. What are you scared?" Silva is the vastly superior striker and should have been taking the stand up fight to Maia. Expecting Maia to come in and engage in a striking battle would have been foolish. What would it have proved for Maia to pull a Forrest Griffin and come in recklessly throwing punches?
Goldberg said Silva was like Ali and "what's my name" and Joe said "Yeah like Ali times ten." Not sure if he was just talking about the showboating or talent but Joe sounded like he had a hard on when he said it so my guess is he meant both.
I hear ya.....but unfortunately ALL fighting starts on the feet and with that fact being JUST a ground guy who is unsucessful in getting the fight to the ground will have a short career in the UFC.....now I know Silva is very hard to get to the ground...his stricking is very effective "defense" in a very demoralizing way. I think we saw a bit of Anderson that highlights just how much he "feels himself" knowing that he's damn near untouchable in his profession and seems to not care about his promoters....nor his limited opponent for that matter..."he "Maia" wasn't even good enough for Silva to take seriously". The show boating would have been alright if Silva actually tried to do his job and respect his sport by finishing like a champion. I'm sure Maia would have rather lost like that.
