He didn't throw a single punch the entire 3rd round, and only threw an occasional punch the rest of the fght. :-(

He was just clowning and circling, and the crowd was rightly booing him.

My friends and I were in disbelief watching this stupid fight.

At least Penn vs Edgar was interesting - though one judge had Edgar winning all 5 rounds, he deserved the victory. Penn never even attempted a takedown, got taken down twice (though quickly got up), and he was gassed and bruised up by the end. Edgar was still bouncing around and looking like he could go another 5 rounds. Glad to see Penn lose this fight after not really trying to do anything but counter punch the whole fight.

I'm glad I didn't order this ****. Everyone is saying the same thing about the Silva fight and quite frankly I'm in shock Penn lost. I mean I know it's a fight and anything can happen, but Penn losing to Edgar wasn't something I thought would go in the record books. But atleast Hughes cleaned up Renzo, I'm very happy about that.

But don't you know how deadly Anderson is? He would murrrrder Fedor, GSP and every other fighter on the p4p list, you know, despite going 5 rounds with guys like Maia and Leites.

    Bahahahaha.

What else did you expect? If they are going to serve up Leites clones to Anderson, expect a boring 5 rounds of buttscooting and Anderson not fighting his opponent's gameplan.

Bring a fighter who will fight, like Marquadt or Chael.

The Silva thing is very strange.

    (1) Taking the **** out of Maia for the first two and a half rounds, hitting him at will and showing a complete lack of respect.

    (2) Doing **** all for the next two and a half rounds, showing too much respect, and maybe looked like he was carrying Maia to the decision.

    (3) Talking about how he should have been "more humble" in the interview, which I take it alludes to his actions in the first two and a half rounds.

Maybe this is paranoid ranting, but it looked that way to me: Silva showing a complete lack of respect to Maia, then Maia gaining his respect by taking all the punishment he did, so Anderson decides to carry him the last two and a bit rounds, and then apologies for not being "more humble" (ie: Sorry for acting the **** in the first 2 and a bit rounds). He didn't seem proper gassed to me, in fact looked to cover more ground in the last two rounds than he did in the previous three (even if he wasn't throwing punches and kicks), and still shrugged off Maia with ease when he went for the takedown

    BTW I've had a few pints.:D

Hughes vs Renzo was disappointing if you're a Hughes fan, though. Renzo was doing what we expected - to stand and strike. He was doing what many thought he'd do, and Hughes couldn't take him down. He tried a few times, but there was no explosiveness at all. Hughes just threw leg kicks all fight and finally seemed to really damage it at the end. Even then, it wasn't until the last minute that he really attacked him. Until that point, Hughes would take several steps back after he landed a punch or kick - it was strange, especially after Hughes talked about how he was going to ground and pound him.

I thought Edgar won 3-2. He did a great job the whole fight, and wore Penn down. Penn was gassed and looked slow and sloppy toward the end. Edgar has always been a very good striker, and he really stepped up in this one. Penn justed stormed out of the cage after the decision. He should have done more. At the end of the fight, Penn was leaning against the cage gasping for breath, and Edgar was smiling and fresh, raising his hands in victory. Penn had swollen eyes and looked like a beaten man..

Maia WAS fighting - or at least trying to. He was swinging and going at him, but of course couldn't connect very often. But he was actually trying to mix it up, even after he was obviously losing. It was Silva who was backing away from him and not throwing punches.

The crowd was chanting for Maia because he at least tried, then they started chanting for GSP lol, then back to the boos for Silva.

    Thanks for the info dude:thumbsup

I know Hughes has lost a step or 2, but I think the inactivity has played a big part in his last 2 performances. I didn't see the Renzo fight, but your view on it was accurate to what I read somewhere else a few mins ago. I read Renzo was up 2-0. I'm just glad Hughes went for it. He maybe perhaps knew it was desperation time and pressed the action. Whatever the case, I'm just glad he won by stopping him. I thought he would win a 3 round decision.

And Edgar swelled Penn's eyes?? Damn, this I gotta see. Do you think Penn took him lightly or Edgar just had the right game plan? Or a little of both?

I agree, Silva could have done more but Dana's an idiot for making this matchup IMO. He could have chose Marquadt or Sonnen who will make the fight more exciting but he chose a guy that lost to Marquadt. Styles makes fights, he should know that.

Actually, Dana isn't the match maker. Joe Silva is. But I see where you're coming from. I agree.

More humble is ridiculous. When Sugar Ray Leonard would taunt in boxing it was usually followed by a punch. After Roy Jones dropped his hands to show off against a fighter he would land a straight right and hurt them. He was being disrespectful, and yes he is talented enough to be that way if he chooses, but it isn't very impressive to say he was able to go 5 rounds standing with Maia without being in danger. Marquardts win was impressive.

Sure, it LOOKED as if Silva could have KOd Maia at any moment but when it came down to the actual fight he couldn't finish him.

What Silva did didn't show off his greatness so much as he showed he was an *******. Marquardt finished Maia way better than Anderson did.

Nothing wrong with the matchup, Anderson only has himslef to blame. I would have liked Sonnen to get the shot too but he is still recovering from injuries.

The first two rounds were entertaining the rest was pissing in the fan's faces. He should be punished somehow. I don't think they can give him a paycut but maybe make him fight a janitor on the undercard or smth.

That crowd should have linched him, that was an insult.

Who the **** does he think he is???

I feel a bit of sympathy for Maia.

With mediocre takedown ability and poor stand-up, he never had a great chance to win, but he didn't deserve to be mocked and humiliated like that. In the latter stages of the fight he was the aggressor and actually gave Silva exactly what he wanted - he went forward and tried to hit him with some rather wild combinations. Even then Anderson showed little desire to fight.

    Comparisons to Leites are unjustified.
