    [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Greek_Boxing[/ame]

Greeks from various city states fought each other which is no different to how lots of american boxers only fight in america but travel to different states. And they BOXED with rules and equiptment just like modern boxers do. Ok it wasnt as advanced and was more brutal and hardcore but the principles remain the same. Just because your ancestors may have still been caveman level doesnt mean the rest of the world was.

The Europeans seem (from what I've gathered anyway) to appreciate "the sweet science" a bit more.

We're Americans, we're down with **** like instant gratification.

This is where MMA has blown up and like a mofo in that it's more brutal and quicker.

And I've found that I'd like boxing a whole lot better if most matches were more action-packed.

If most boxers were like Mayweather and Sweet Pea I'd seldom watch boxing, and I've spoken to several others that feel the same way.

I only spoke for myself. But yeah, no doubt some people in Europe bring in the Euro thing too. I don't understand it myself, but maybe in other countries the European nationality means more to them. That or they just want to **** off American fans. Most likely the latter. But more Americans talk about "Euros" as if they are all one nation. Make no mistake about that.

america still has one of the best boxers in the world in floyd mayweather, but the future doesn't look good for america. most of their real top fighters are near the end of their career and the up n comers are not as good. europe is now better, and will continue to get better. americans will not cry to UFC and follow that more now and claim boxing is dead.

The difference I found, and I'm generalising here and there are exceptions on both sides, is that Americans are more flavour of the month fans. Had Ricky Hatton been American, he would have lost most of his fans after the Mayweather loss. The legions of working class fans that followed him to Vegas for the Pac fight was remarkable. Generally speaking, Europeans support their fighters through thick and thin, in America, one bad loss and nobody is interested in you until you beat a somebody again. It is much more cutthroat.

Before Americans reading this get all offended, I'm not calling you a bandwagoner, I was speaking in general terms.

when hatton got knocked out against mayweather, his fans were still singing. i think it's for certain that americans wouldn't do that for their boxer. they jump on wagons, and then claim the boxer was always overrated once that boxer loses, let alone it's those fans that overrated the boxer in the first place. they're dumb.

    It's a reasonable post.

The Hatton point does speak volumes. That can't be argued. :good
