Some fights I watched the other day:

Eduardo Lausse vs. Bobby Boyd: 95-95 Draw
    Boyd: 1,3,5,7 and 9.
    Lausse: 2,4 ( 10-8 ),6 and 10.
    Round 8 even.

Brutal encounter. Both men were hurt in turns and both struggled to impose their will on each other. Boyd landed more, but Lausse of course landed the heavier stuff. I think Lausse would have got the job done over 15, but a good effort by Boyd and he definitely has a case for winning this one.

Holly Mims vs. Bobby Boyd I: 96-94 Mims
    Boyd: 6,8 ( 10-8 ) and 9.
    Mims: 1,2,3,4,7 and 10.
    Round 5 even.

Mims' explosive shots made Boyd somewhat reluctant to engage early on and by the time Boyd got going it was a little too late to overcome Mims. A good solid last round sealed the deal for Holly.

Jimmy Beecham vs. Bobby Boyd II: 96-95 Beecham
    Boyd: 1,2,5 and 8.
    Beecham: 4,6,7,9 and 10.
    Round 3 even.

Beecham was a dwarf, but he had some really nice bob-n'weave skills which made Boyd swing at air on plenty of occasions. Boyd got somewhat tired from swinging at air so often and in the later rounds Beecham was throwing some haymakers that were tagging Boyd and swinging things in his favour. Boyd got the early rounds based on activity and Beecham took the later rounds for his cleaner punching. A could have gone either way affair.

Luis Federico Thompson vs. Benny Kid Paret II: 144-142 Thompson
    Paret: 1,3,5,9,10 and 12.
    Thompson: 2,4,6,7,8,13.14 and 15.
    Round 11 even.

Federico Thompson is a gem. Most relaxed guy I've ever seen in the ring. Paret came in throwing 100 punches per round which helped him win his fair share of rounds, but Thompson deflected, parried and rolled with plenty of them and was coming back with crisp counter shots that were beautiful to watch. Stylistically, I favoured Thompson and thought his clean effective punching, defense and ring generalship won him the day, but I can see how others have it different, because Paret was landing a lot of blows and was pressuring Luis the whole way.

If anyone has it, give it a watch. Well worth it. :good

    Watched Locche vs Hernandez,

    Locche:1,3,8,9,10,12,13,14 KD'd 2
    Hernandez: 2,4,7,11,15 KD'd 14
    Total: 144-141 Locche (8-5-2)

(rounds 5 and 6 missing scored even)

Good bout this. SS you mention Hernandez keeping it close with pressure, what I liked about it was he went downstairs where Locche could'nt avoid some of the shots. As the bout pressed on I thought Hernandez lost hs way and got frustrated and went back to the head and got even more frustrated. But overrall a good bout between two cracking fightewrs.

Yeah I think Carlos was a bit too eager to land head shots after Locche started tagging him and he abandoned his game plan, which was working quite good til the midway point. Locche is just so hard to hit upstairs.

Is it just me or did Nicolino look like Floyd big time in this fight?

If Mayweather and Locche had good jabs they would be absolutely hell to beat. Their one true weakness imo.

Yes definitly, Locche did show some awesome ring gneralship though, he seemed to know what to do at every point in the fight. I actually thought Locche did his best work when he got in centre of the ring and started to lead, though.

He did fight a bit like Floyd, yeh. I think he is more based around reflexes and speed rather than Mayweather's more technical approach.

I agree, although I think Mayweather has a good jab he just does not throw it. I think Locche is a very hard fighter to beat anyway, just not sure what to expect from him and an odd style.

Nah man, S_S got that one from one of his sources, I`ve acquired some good footage from scientist over the years too. Woller is another top fellow when it comes to good footage, if you read this I got your stuff in the mail this week by the way. I may have a LOT of rare fight films, but even I ain`t got access to all thats out there.

Gotta tell you folks though that you can expect a lot more rare fight films to turn up in the coming months, lotta collectors who have been holding onto films for years are now looking to sell them off to make some money due to the economy, and as a result a lot of fights are gonna start making the rounds that haven`t been seen on any lists or sites that sell fight films.

Fights I have watched the last few days.

Luis Manuel Rodriguez vs Wilbert McClure I

    Rodriguez:
    1,3,4,5,6*,8 1 PD 6**
    McClure: 2,6*,7,9,10 KD'd 3
    Total: 95-93 Rodriguez (5-5* Draw)

*Because under the scoring system used in that fight a PD meant the loss of a round in rounds the bout was level, although a 10 point must system gave Rodriguez the win on my card

    ** Low blows.
Really good fight this. Rodriguez forced the fight and was landing some nice body shots then coming over the top with whipping right hands. McClure showed alot of talent and heart standing with Rodriguez and landing crisp counters. A really nice fight.

    Rodriguez WUD10

Jimmy Bivins vs Archie Moore V

Just highlights but I thought that Moore wa slanding nice counters on Bivins and showed good head movement. The bout was fought in the middle of the ring and Bivins was throwing long lefts but I felt Moore was coming in and countering very well. The ending was very odd though.

    Moore WRTD9

    Ezzard Charles vs Coley Wallace

    Charles:
    2,4,5,6,7,8,9
    Wallace:1,3 KD'd 8, 10x2
    Total: 88-82 Charles (7-2)

Good fight, Charles starts slow and shows a poor defence and makes up for it in aggresion. Charles starts of pretty rubbish offensivly but soon warms to his task and starts to become more accurate and finally zero's in on Wallace and takes him out late brutally.

    Charles WTKO10

    Ike Williams vs Livio Minelli

Again, just highlights. Early on Minelli was moving expertly and keeping Ike off balance and not able to get set, he was throwing flicking jabs and not much else. Williams was stalking but not very effective. As the bout wore on Williams became more and more effective as he shortened the distance between them and started to land more and pin Minelli down, it was interesting to see Williams zero in on his prey. Looked to be a very good fight.

    Williams WUD10

Ike Williams vs Johnny Bratton III

Just a 1 min highlight but looked a brutal fight. From what I seen Williams was picking Bratton to pieces and landing really sharp right hand counters and straight rights as part of combos. The right hand that broke his jaw was really brutal. The ending was very very brutal.

    Williams WTKO8

    Ike Williams vs Chuck Davey

Again a very short highlight. Davey's movement hel him in good stead and he was able to outmanuever Ike and then land hard shots, although Ike looked really really bad. The ending was quite sad to see a fighter like Ike stopped like that.

    Davey WTKO5

Jimmy Bivins vs Anton Christoforidis III

Again highlights but abitty longer. I thought Bivin boxed well here at long range then tieing Anton up in the inside with his long limbs but still fighting on the inside.

    Bivins WUD15

Arturo Gatti vs Tracey Harris Patterson I

    Gatti:
    1,2,4,5,7,8,9
    Patterson: 3,6,10,11,12 KD'd 2
    Total: 115-112 Gatti (7-5)

Gatti showed good discipline boxing but Patterson just started very slowly and was doing some brilliant work late on, but he was holding back looking to counter far too much.

    Gatti WUD12

Julio Cesear Chavez vs Angel Hernandez

    Chavez:
    2,4
    Hernandez:1,3
    Total: 38-38 DRAW (2-2)

An alright fight. Hernandez looked pretty handy. he was very long and awkward, he did a good job of turning and tieing up Chavez but his offence did not pose much problems for Chavez. Hernandez's tieing up and turning of Chavcez got JCC really mad iand it was hilarious to see him get madder and madder as the fight went on. The edning was premature but the cards were on the table.

    Chavez WTKO5

Julio Cesear Chavez vs Frankie Mitchell

    Chavez:
    2,3
    Mitchell:1 KD'd 3x2,4
    Total: 29-26 Chavez (2-1)

Mitchell posed a problem in the opener with his speed and combos but Chavez soon broke him down and punished him. He showed guts but was no match for Chavez's skills.

    Chavez WTKO4

Mathew Saad Muahmmed vs John Conteh II

    Muhammed:
    1,2,3
    Conteh: KD'd 4 x 5
    Total: 30-27 Muhammed (3-0)

Pretty non-descipt fight. Both didnt do much early, I just liked Muhammed's aggresion and occasional big pot shot. Conteh did have a string of a few good jabs in the second. The first KD was a brilliant combination after that Conteh wasnt hurt but it looked like if the force of the punches dropped Conteh rather than him being hurt. But was a good stoppage as Conteh was gone and wouldnt have won.

    Muhammed WTKO4

Kalule vs Villa is a very good technical fight.Plenty of clever moves being made, with loads of exchanges and top-notch counterpunching. Both fighters have similar styles.

Watched it again before uploading it.Villa actually has his best round just before being pulled out, though overall Kalule was just too sharp and accurate for him.Villa should have stayed at 140 where he would have posed the aging Cervantes a lot of difficulty; 154 was a bit too high a jump after fighting Benitez.Even a fight against Palomino at 147 would have been a better move in retrospect.

Had to start uploading somwhere, and he's a fighter i like that i get the feeling not a lot of people have watched much of.Plus, most of my stuff is all over the place and badly needing organised...i've got about 2 DVD's worth of Kalule and Starling stuff and 6 of mostly Kid Gavilan beside the computer, so it was always going to be something from those, or just random fights i have on the pc.;)

As far as him as a fighter goes, he's just a top notch ring mechanic with a nice laid back elegant style. He integrates subtle footwork with his slipping and countering better than most.A very hard fighter to outbox or beat by being cute-just couldn't punch his way out of a paperbag.

I'd compare him to someone like Davila as far as strengths and weaknesses against the 154/160 field go.Not in terms of looking much like him stylistically, but as far as being in the same category as one of the more technical and fundamentally skilled fighters around in the division , yet who would fall a bit short against a lot of the best fighters because of a few shortcomings.namely punching power and durability here.Winky Wright would be a more relevant example as far as weightclass goes, and in terms of a recent fighter i'd put in the same category.

Kalule made a lot of really nice moves in that 9th round. Villa was a quality fighter himself. That was evident even in his TKO loss to Duran a few years earlier. Unfortunately I haven't seen more of him, if there even is any more footage. I'd like to see his bouts with Peppermint Frazer if they exist.
