boo, i've said this earlier...but sergio is ****ed. him saying he's going to try and get kelly out early is a good strategy. when kelly has been down its been early when kelly is getting his timing together. sergio has to try and lay it on the line early when kelly is in his feeling out process. once kelly settles in its over. i'm sure sergio knows that. it won't work. sergio doesnt have what it takes to take kelly out. but...its logical. this may mean sergio gets sparked earlier than most think but the strategy is pretty logical when you think about it.

Kelly is a bit like "Little Red" was. If you knock him down, he will get up and beat the **** out of you.

I just don't think Martnez has the fire power to hurt Pav. A flash knock down -- maybe. Significant damage -- nope.

Cintron and Williams are natural welterweights who got caught while being stupid. That is no basis for predicting a KO over Kelly Pavlik.

    no its not.

i just watched the sergio/williams fight again. i was amazed at how open paul was to sergio's counters but in all honesty the same thing could be said about the quintana fight as well. paul had such a height advantage on both guys but in both fights he was out of position and unbalanced when he let his hands go that he was essentially eye level and unprotected against much smaller opponents. for all of kelly's flaws, not fighting tall isnt one of them. sergio is going to have to reach and extend much more and throw uphill if he wants to land his left. kellys head won't be perfectly in range and at eye level for sergio all night. so when sergio tries to get him outta there by sneaking that left in he's going to be surprised at how far he has to extend to land it.

I take it you did not hear Pav and his two sparring partners on "Inside Boxing," and "Through the Ropes?" To make a long story short, the lead left is null and void.

i heard. they were turning him at first and then that was put to an abrupt stop. i know you asked kelly about sergio's right hand as well. its not a bad weapon seeing how he knocked cintron out with it but i just don't see it, boo. this really shouldnt be much of a fight. sergio showing a lot of flash and darting around a lot at first. a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing until he gets sparked.

Im rooting for Martinez since he's been getting an unfair shake in the sport. But if Pavlik beats him convincingly and decisively im jumping on the Pavlik Tractor.

From a non partial by-stander Pavlik will ice Martinez :deal

Lets face it PW hit Martinez at will and even though Martinez moves well he still got tagged....only problem here is Pav has 1 punch KO power while PW doesn't :deal

Better just to look at who PAV will fight next to save disappointment :yep

Who are these sparring partners? Sure, Pavlik may have adjusted to them but the chances are they are leagues below what Martinez currently is. His lead left will land.

I'm suprised at how much you get into the hype. I made that thread about Mayweather/Pavlik and if they ever did fight, Mayweather would talk about beating him up, stopping him and you would translate that as "Mayweather will come out swinging". Guys just don't change that much. Martinez can talk about being aggressive all he wants, but he will be a counter puncher. Pavlik can talk about being a boxer, but he will come out fighting his usual way.

You don't get to world title level then change the style which took you there. It doesn't happen in boxing. Sure, you can have a gameplan and throw different punches, but there will be no fundemental changes from either man.

EDIT: World class sparring partner Durrell Richardson from Youngstown? The 12-3 beast.

Wrong as usual. You really don't pay attention. I know they have been listed. Maybe even in this thread?

Austin Trout is the one I remember of the top of my head.

Pavlik said in an interview he was training with Richardson.

And Trout? That pretty much proves my point. He could be a good fighter but he is obviously a long, long way off being as good as Martinez.

If you get your information from ESB then everyone outside the top 2/3 is a bum. Well, unless the division is considered 'loaded' then you might get as many as 5. How long ago were Dirrell and Ward unproven 'prospects' that were patsies in the SMW tourney? I remember Loew saying before the first fight that Dirrell wasn't given enough credit.
