Anyone here think it was a robbery/BJ won?

There seems no mention of it here (probably because people are still raving at Silva) but elsewhere on the interwebz it seems some MMA fans and 'pundits' not only thought Penn won but was robbed (at least that's what I'm interpreting). For example the guys at Sherdog, and I mean the guys running the site not their ******ed forumites, believe that the scoring for the fight was shocking.

    http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles/UFC-112-What-We-Learned-23783

Not only that but FightMetric (like Compubox for those who don't know) had Penn winning I do believe. Not that this is absolute proof that Penn should have won or anything but it is interesting.

So I want to know what you guys here think? Post scorecards or whatever if you like.

P.S. I in no way think it was a robbery. I wasn't scoring the fight at the time but on first viewing it looked like Edgar did enough to outwork Penn for the win. I might go and rewatch the fight at some point.

I think the scoring was ****ed, no doubt.... 50-45 for Edgar is insane. That said, I can see how it could be scored 3-2 for either fighter. It was a close fight, and you have to respect Edgar for coming in and doing what no other lightweight has been able to for years.

Personally, as much as I love Penn... I think this is good for the division.

    I agree with Eddie.

3-2 for either guy is acceptable. Not a robbery. But 5-0 is nuts.

I agree totally. Penn did himself no favors with his manner during the fight and especially after the last round. He looked totally resigned that he lost. Not that the last round was all that close per say (I thought it was the clearest of the fight) but looking exhausted and pained while your opponent runs around with his arms raised never helps.

As for the "fight metric" thing, that doesn't really help with scoring round by round. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Penn really badly out-landed Edgar in the first two and then got outlanded himself in the last three narrowly.

By the way, I think Penn takes the rematch via clinch, takedown, punches, sub. He sure as hell doesn't want to lose two to Edgar and totally **** up his legacy and when that's on the line (see Pulver II) he throws the macho **** out the window and does what he needs to do to win.

No. Quite frankly, I can't see how anyone really scored it for B.J.

He really didn't do anything. Rarely, rarely did he advance himself. Rarely did he go on the forward offensive. Everything he did was responsive to what Edgar was doing. Edgar outworked him EVERYWHERE! He did EVERYTHING better then Penn! He varied his strikes. He varied his angle of attack and type. He would go for a takedown simply to throw him off.

How in the hell could you possibly score it for B.J.? What did he do? Where did he put any significant effort in the fight? Edgar did everything better.

He landed the more effective hard shots in the first two rounds.

I thought it was really close. I thought BJ probably won two maybe three rounds on landing the better punches throughout - but Edgar definitely outhustled him down the stretch.

3-2 in rounds, either way is debatable - 5-0 Insanity.

I would not have argued with BJ winning. It was damn close either way. It may have come down to Edgar looking busier and initiating the action more.

I thought Penn won the first 2 rounds, and Edgar won the next three.

One of my friends thought Penn won the first 3 rounds. The other two thought the 3rd could go either way.

Not a robbery - but 5-0 for Edgar was crazy.

Penn just didn't do enough, and simply stood still the whole fight and tried to just counter. Never even tried to take him down once.

At the end of the fight I asked my friends - "Who would you rather have been in that fight?", as Penn was leaning against the cage with his eyes all swollen and exhausted, while Edgar was bouncing around looking fresh and barely a mark on him.. We all agreed that we would rather have been Edgar in that fight. Not very scientific, but by the end, Edgar looked like the winner and Penn was the big fat loser...

I agree with most people, BJ won rounds 1 and 2 but 3 and 4 were close and Edgar won 5. but how the **** did the judge give all 5 to Edgar?

BJ won the fight. He won rounds one and two and even though the 3rd rd may seem close, this is the round when BJ really landed some hard hard shots. Ill put it this way, if these were boxing judges BJ would have won easily. There were some leg kicks by Frankie but half of those were checked and really ineffective as far as damage.

But the standard for BJ is different, it was the worst matchup for him and he compounded it by not taking the fight to the ground.

Edgar is a good guy, he won he deserves it. And how bout how classy BJ was post fight.

    The guys pure class.
