This guy said he is better than me! I know I look like ****, but imho, he really looks like ****...3 rounds, 2 minute rounds...who'd win? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDLDkQrD2Do&feature=related[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JW2w5BKE-0[/ame]
I think you are being harsh on yourself. You look like you have the physicality for it, but just not the training in the fundamentals. He looks a bit more experienced than you. He is going through more "mental progressions" than you. Meaning he is envisioning punches coming at him, dealing with them, and ad******g his attack. My guess is that he has sparred before. His foot placement seems a bit more disciplined too. You on the other hand are just punching the bag. This isn't a bad thing per se, but it tells me that when the fists get flying you may "freeze" or be overwhelmed. That is easily fixed with a good boxing gym and some intermediate classes progressing to sparring sessions. So IMHO, I think he would take you due to experience, but not for the reasons he thinks (skills). Plant your feet and step not bounce. Get your lead hand up and a few inches left so that you are looking "down the pipe". The first punch should be a stiff sharp jab. As a starting "routine" I would recommend (2:30 rounds): 1 - pitty pat the bag (think speed not pop) 2 - single jab - work on getting a good turn over, pop, head move, and return to stance 3 - single, double, triple jab combos - slight left step after each head movement --- 4 - 1-2 (jab - straight) - focus on pop and the straight landing as fast behind the jab as possible BUT still returning your jab hand to guard your face. 5 - 1-2-3 (jab, straight, left/right hook) 6 - Freestyle 7 - Freestyle 8 - Infighting - work on tucking your head close to the bag, but covering yourself --- 9 - Jab 10 - pitty pat You can mix and match rounds 4-8. Depends on your desired "style" or focus. I say keep 10 rounds because even if you look like crap it gets you used to putting your time in. Keep training and duck your head into a gym. Even if it is "pay-as-you-go" if you do a few classes it will give you concrete stuff to work on when you hit that bag! "Feeling good" without the basics will get you handled real quick by a guy who is just comfortable in there. He won't have to be "good".
dude you would win, he was a total spastic hitting a heavy bad that looked like a big floppy black turd
Now sparring is a lot different than hitting a heavybag. I would wait until you spar before you start criticisizing other people. There are guys who may not be as tallented as you, but have more experience and have a taste for getting hit more than you.
Thanks for the advice, although I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I actually have sparred, and I even had a few amatuer fights in the early 2000s....10 years later, I'm just now getting back into it. But like I said, thanks for your input. It's too bad you don't live in Orlando...you could be my trainer...seems like you know your ****.
Don't get me wrong. Brotha I think you look real good man. That is why I always wonder why you are so hard on yourself. That is the beauty of the sport though. We can always improve. Maybe you were a little hype for the camera?
Oh, size means nothing when it's two guys who don't know what they are doing...I once saw an experienced featherweight beat the crap out of a guy who weighed over 200 pounds...
