Only got round to seeing the Berto fight yesterday evening. Gotta be honest, I've never been the biggest fan of Berto, the Yanks are really high on him but he seems a bit of a plodder to me. I've only seen him fight 4 or 5 times but I noticed yesterday his hooks were very slappy. Maybe it's ring rust, I don't know.. What are peoples views on Berto, is he that good??
lol, its definitely you. but like the guy above me stated you've probably got him and caballero mixed up. cuz that guy slaps like its nobodys business
I didnt think he slapped at all, for the most part his hooks looked pretty solid to me. But that is the 1st time ive seen the guy fight live (seem a few youtube clips), and i must admit i liked him a lot. The commentators in the UK, however, said he wasnt at his best. Whats every1's opinion on that, was he at his best or is there more to come after a long lay off?
Berto fought the entire fight on the front foot which is unsual for him as he normally likes to box his way in. For some reason he seemed quite anxious and pretty much bent on overpowering Quintana which was quite an unusal tactic considering Quintana is no slouch in the power department. All in all it was not a poor performance and quite a good result for Berto. But its time for him to mix it up with some of the best names at 47.
He slaps because he is a "jumper inner".......he is never set. When he sets, then he can punch....but he needs a different trainer to help him with this problem.
It's not that he slaps, it's that he doesn't set his feet a lot of the time and thus doesn't turn his body into his punches.
much of the problem seems to stem from his jab. It has a weird looping motion and only snaps past the elbow most of the time. Hard to snap your punches off of that.
