I'll take Kenny to box and move his way to a UD. Marquez likes a guy to jump at him, and can't really get his offence into high gear when a guy maintains distance and gives him few countering opportunities. Buchanan's beautiful jab would be at work all the way, he'd keep Marquez at range and tie him up when he tries to close the gap.
A smaller man trying to use counter-pressure to beat Buchanan is a horrible thought. TKO10 or 11 in a horrible fight.
I could see this going either way, im leaning towards Marquez but realistically its a pickem fight i went with draw.
Buchannan close UD, Ken using is speed and movement while boxing and moving, JMM is also open to the jab. I think JMM would land his own quality shots and make it close. I wouldnt be suprised if it looked a little like the Chris John fight, this will be no easy fight for Ken
How is it realistically an either way fight when Marquez could barely outbox Joel Methuselah Casamayor?
I dont see this all that close in the end but it would be a good scrap...lightweight Marquez was a clear step down from his feather-superfeather form. He still had a good punch but I dont see that as a major factor against the iron chin of Kenny. Kenny clear decision.
I think you're unneccesarily hard on Marquez for this fight. He was adjustng to a new weight division agianst a genuinely high class trial horse, whom he managed to KO for the first time. That's really not that bad.
As I've said before, it was a good performance given where Marquez was at in his career, it was not a good lightweight performance per se. It's nothing for instance Greg Haugen wouldn't have done in more convincing fashion. In any case, going 11 rounds even with an ancient FORMER good but not really outstanding lightweight is not the recipe for an either way fight with Ken Buchanan. Think me a Marquez hater all you like, my logic is sound.
To say he doesnt have a chance he is crazy but this type of nuthuggery on older fighters doesnt surprise me here, Joel Casamayor is underrated and has some excellent boxing skills him self. Buchanan and Marquez are on a equal playing field here, and overall on Atg list id put Marquez higher, although at LW these 2 would be a pick em match.
I love lines like that. Steady, I didn't say or imply that, I just think you're a little hard on his performance in that fight.
As SS is about to point out to you, Casamayor was well past his best and in pretty horrible form for his Marquez bout.
Casa was well finished though...going into fight I couldnt honestly remember the last time Casa had a truly impressive performance..he was given the Katsidas fight on a platter thats about it. Impressive finish but not a very good performance overall..I dont think he would be able to pull out a kind of stoppage over Kenny in 50 fights between them.
You do know Chris John regularly throws 100-120 punches a round, the higher the workrate the more countering opportunities for Marquez
