The European strap is starting to become devalued though. Look at the guy Darren Barker fought. As good an effort as he put in he was no great fighter, it was more Darren's limitations that allowed him into the fight. Audley/Sprott is never a European title standard fight. It's not pitting the best in Europe against each other neccessarily, you're lucky if both the participants are top 10.

Munroe, Rhodes and Magee are the only ones right now who, in my opinion, are deserving of the Euro title.

Oh yeah...how could I forget Matt Hatton. Perfect illustration of the fact its not how good you are but how you can play the system. Hopefully the Euro title doesn't go down the Commonwealth title route of becoming a complete joke.

He fought for the vacant title, and his opponent at the time had only had one 12 rounder (which he lost) and had only had 8 rounders for the last 2 and a half years. I give him a lot of respect for going over there as the underdog and pulling off a great win, but he wasn't a top Euro level opponent.

only Rhodes and Munroe won non vacated titles. I guess with the high rankings you get for winning the title, fighters just look for better things.

It's going downhill sadly. When was the last time one of our title holders had to face a real genuine testing top tier opponent?

Unfortunately, if you go through the list European HW title holders you will find that they are bang on the standard.
