I don't fancy anyone beating Duran at 135. Chavez would be there at the final bell though, I'm convinced of that, he was as tough as they come.

No, he means Duran the Panamanian national that not one Mexican fan would be rooting for if they were to fight. You won't find a Mexican in Mexico who will say Duran is represenitive of them. Ask a Mexican boxing fan about Duran being Mexican and the response you would get would go something like this... "**** NO, FOOL! That vato wasn't a Mexican. We fight 'til the death, ay, like Chavez. Duran quit like a pinche joto!" LMFAO

That is a horrible blanket statement to make. I would perhaps be a bit offended where we not in the General Forum..

As it where, Duran represented all of Latin America and it's fighting spirit.

I'm from Southern California. It isn't a "blanket statement". It is the TRUTH. Don't be offended, Mexicans aren't.

I guess it depends on the Mexican in question as we come in all shape color and sizes. Not unlike our northern neighbors.

This is not meant to be a shot at anyone here.

The thread does no justice to the two fighters in question and the Classic Forum covers it beautifully. I highly recommend reading what those posters have to say as they leave more experience and knowledge of the sport and it's fighters , in the business end of a tissue than all of us have as a whole.

duran outboxes him. i've gained a growing respect for chavez over the years but stylistically, duran had trouble with movers, not guys who came at him. duran had better defense, more varied offense, was faster, more mobile. chavez had an iron chin and will, great body attack but i don't see him bringing anything to this fight that could beat duran. chavez had one style: come forward, apply pressure, destroy opponents soul. duran would utilize lateral movement, more fluid combinations and take 8 of the first 10 rounds. at that point he might push for a tko (which he likely wouldn't get) or win by a landslide UD
