I saw the Delahoya vs Felix Sturm fight and Oscar looked bloated and sluggish at 160. At 154, however, he was still strong, quick, sharp. That said, I feel like Nino was the naturally stronger, larger framed man and would out maneuver and out box Oscar at this weight. If not for a killer named Monzon then Benvenuti could probably have ruled at Middleweight for at least a couple if not a few more years. Benvenuti UD Delahoya (a late round stoppage is certainly not out of the question either)
Right, if it weren't for Monzon. I think Nino was just rediscovering that he had a punch, and besides that one punch devastation of Luis Rodriguez, he also settled the scores with both Doyle Baird and Tom Bethea by ko's in title rematches of bouts where he was held to a draw and tko'ed respectively, in nontitle bouts. He had ko power in both fists to accompany good boxing skills, and he had guts too. I thought for sure that he would carry on for at least a couple of more years as champion, but then came Monzon.
It would have been a war ... I still favor Oscar after 12 close rounds...especially if he has the Professor in his corner
When DLH was the #1 P4P fighter in the world, he was OBVIOUSLY rabked higher in that division than Nino was at JMW. That may be true, but Oscar still fought the best in every division he reigned in making him the legitamate champ in those respective divisions. Even at WW, you can't deny he was the true champ there, even with the Trinidad robbery. He was even the P4P best fighter in the world during that reign. besides S. FW, and MW, Oscar was the true champ in the remaining 4 divisions he fought in. Also Oscar's record is stacked with a bunch of Euro bums like Nino's. By the time Nino stepped into the world class level he had 70 fights under his belt, and his reign only lasted 5 years whiles Oscar's lasted 12 years. Well imo Oscar's competition at 154 is superior to Nino's, and Nino has a 38% KO ration compared to Oscar's 50% KO ratio at 154. Also, since entering the world class level, Oscar has about a 60% KO ratio compared to Nino's 26% KO ratio.... That says a lot about their power. Who hits harder defitnately matters, because you need all the advantages you can get. Oscar's jab is also better imo. It's faster, less predictable, and more compact than Nino's. Speed goes to Oscar. The only advantage I see Nino having over Oscar is size. But Oscar has proven he can use his skills to overcome the size disadvantages in the Vargas, Mayorga, Castillejo and Trinidad fights. Hell he completely dominated three of the four, and brutally KO two of them. The reason Nino's record looks good is because of the 70 Euro bums before he stepped up to the world class level. Oscar was bigger but he was moving up in weight into unknown territory when he fought and CLEARLY beat Whitaker imo. The fight was close, and Whiatker's show boating and dancing made the fight look closer than what it was, but Oscar clearly won. Whitaker fought like a 20 year old in that fight showing great reflexes and speed, but it wasn't enough to beat the stronger Oscar. Vargas is very underrated technically. He was a boxer puncher with good footwork, great power, andvery good boxing skills. His ability is underrated many times due to his short lived elite career. He was a victim of bad management. But who else gives a prime Winky, Tito, and Quartey their roughest fights in their prime??? Who did Mazzinghi beat??? That guy never fought outside of Italy FFS!!!!! Did he beat a Winky? A Quartey? A Campas? a castillejo???? No. Of course Vargas was better! And as far as DLH looking as bug as Vargas...ahahhaha This content is protected 165 pounds of pure lean muscle right there. Griffith was smaller than Nino, no matter what way you spin it. Even as far as 1976 Emile is coming in at 150 lbs for a JMW fight. Oscar beat Whitaker, Chavez, Trinidad, Mosley, Camacho, Leija. He also beat a bunch a good fighters like Vargas, Mayorga, Ruelas, Molina, Paez, Gatti, Gonzalez, Hernandez, Castillejo, Campas, Quartey. How many fighters of that calibre did Nino beat?? The only one you can think of is Sturm? Quartey? Whitaker? I had him losing both. And no the Sturm fight was not close it was an 8-4 type fight for Sturm who was clearly robbed.[/quote] Both or all three??? The Quartey fight was closer than the Whitaker fight imo, and I felt he clearly beat Quartey in a very close fight. These sentences above are completely ****, even if it's your opinion, it's bias beyond reason, and just plain ignorant. I can't even argue with that..it's pathetic...FFS, you're saying Nino's shortter reign, against lesser opponents is better than Oscars reign that lasted twice as long with three times the amount of quality opponents?????atsch Chavez is better than any fighter Nino ever fought. atsch
1. Learn to read. It seems you can´t. See your very first sentence. 2. Looking up fighters on boxrec does not equal knowledge. Boxrec warrior. 3. Do you really think I would argue with the biggest ODLH fanboy on this board about DLH? No, I won´t, that would be like talking to a wall, no in fact talking to a wall would be far more fun.
bump.... I am interested in watchin some more Benvenuti as i don't know much about him, and thought I would revive this thread.

bodhi, they left the gate open from the general forum once again. This is a boxrec wonderboy who's got the attention span of a fruit fly. There's nothing to keep a general forum idiot from posting in the Classic forum unfortunately..he's just another troll not worth arguing with.
