Leonard, the Klitschkos and a few other are the rare exceptions. Boxing is and always will be a poor boy's sport. The overwhelming majority or great boxers (probably 90 percent, just a guess) were born into poverty.

And I'll bet U.S. cities are far more dangerous that those in the UK. (No, it's not something we should be proud of.) There are over 10,000 gun deaths a year in the US. I believe the figure is under a hundred for UK. Maybe not that low, but ballpark.

Although I agree with it, this opinion is really beside the point. The point, I'd say, is whether Froch is doing what he normally does in interviews....speaking out of his arse. No, I'm not from the UK, but I know that Nottingham doesn't rank high on the list of the toughest or most dangerous cities. In the US, it'd be a big blue collar town.

If you dont know the life stories of the individuals who grow up there you cannot determine how many obstacles they had to overcome.

Who would've guessed that this thread would've turned into 20 pages of Americans claiming how tough their cities are compared to everywhere else?

You can't read pretty much all American responses concern state that Nottingham is not a tough city and Froch is a whiny Beach like David Gaye

Tough has a differant meaning according to time and place... and it don't mean **** by itself....

Philipines or Acra Ghana is a "tougher" place than any US Ghetto IMO.... but that's exactly what it is....MY OPINION. Froch may have had a tough upbringing relitively speaking....was it tougher than some dude in Africa, Ghana or some slu, im south america or south africa or Philli? It's all relitive... UK does have some "rough" council estates... doesn't mean they don't have modern luxeries.... just that people are more likely to get into trouble fighting than other places....and this custom to fighting is what makes them tough....just like any other motivation
